Maximum Number of BA2s

Youre obviously talking about LOADED archives not the total of them in the data folder....

Ive never heard anything about anyone hitting such a barrier but it depends on what type of mods people use. Even people using 255+ mods may not see that limit unless all their mods also have archives..

Im curious as to why you asked ??

Someone floated this question on here like a week ago...

Think LarannKlar is on the right track (approaching ~512).

Would like to venture (based on other threads) it could be like >254 -main and/or >254 -textures.

Since they are each handled slightly differently, and I'm well above 254 combined.

@greekrage

The game does/will read files (at least of known file types) even if it is not using them. :ohmy:

There's been a discussion about this in the Vortex forums, as well.

It does seem like the limit is somewhere around 450, but WHERE around that limit, is a variable. So I'm leaning more towards it being what's inside the archives, rather than the number of them. Such as amount of data within, how many files within, etc etc.

I'm leaning towards size or size/number of files inside. Since there's been issues with users having lag, when having archives of these conditions.

To me, the answer would be to have a version with loose files, and one with archived files.

Not to me though... providing .esls and .esps sometimes esl flagged esps means having enough to do already, especially with archiving and updating stuff. Gonna need a secretary otherwise

Yes, I can totally understand where you are coming from on that!

To be fair though for a user it wouldn't be a lot of work to unpack some .ba2s with the material editor. It's just that there's a lack of awareness of this issue.

I mean even us here are not sure about it.
