Can't install ANY patch!

Hi all!

I had searched for a solution to this bug for couple of days now, without any luck. Hope you can help me with it.

Probem is that any patch i try to install doesn't actually patch the game

I do a fresh install in default directory tree(tried different locatin-no luck). Then i try to install patch 1.5 for example(did earlier versions too - with same result). The patch starts normally, two red bars doing their job. There's a command line popping out for a second or two, and then the game launch itself. But it's is not patched!

I checked the file version - it's still 1.0.0.12. I try to play broken steel, but still no luck here, after the "two weeks later" i start under the bed, without any posibility to move(game still working though). And the original has the same bugs the patch shoud fix.

I have admin rights, the files are not read only.

I dont have any mods installed.

I tried to install on different drives - no luck

I turned off UAC - no luck

I tried to install everything in safe mode - no luck

Im running on Windows 7 RC1. I read that it had a patch released a day after the RC1 came out, that fixed some file issues, but couldn't find any thing related to that. Maybe that's the problem?

PLEASE HELP!

I recall seeing the same response to loading earlier patches. Now that the topic has been added. It is still likely that your OS is causing part of the problem.

I tried installing the game to a different folder once, other than the one it goes to automatically. I read that it would clear up some problems.

Vista has a Program File (x86) for 32 bit software.

Is it likely your system is providing another root folder for game files too that the patch isn't finding?

Stop trying to load 1.5 patch. I suspect Bethesda hasn't even fully tested it with your OS.

Play with the patch you have installed and if you are planning on using Mods try out Quarns ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated and see if will work with your Game setup.

You have a newer version OS and you will have to do the searching all over the Internet to find your OS mates to help you out.

Some of us Vista OS licensed users are just now getting a grip.

You see, i just want to play broken steel. Usually i play with many mods, loking for the ultimate one(with extended world map hopefully), without any patches installed (As i mentioned earlier).

And That's my problem: I can't install patches. I think it's OS related, so maybe i should post in some Win7 forums...

I tried to find something with WIn7 and found those:

And they didn't help.

Edit: Well, i just tried something. I deleted the fallout3.exe and the patch did the same thing it did erlier. So, moaybe it does not see my files, or maybe it just can't access them. Actually, i never saw the progress bar move over 0% when patching files oother than the Windows live one. It just skipped them. But again, i have all the permisions for the folder. I even made it accesible over my network, with full permisions for Everyone. Still, nothing.

It's normal for the patch the launch the game, it happens to me too, just let it run, install it , and walk away from your PC for a hour and then return and if the game is on exit it, and then go to your program Bethesda folder and find the exe click on it, and a window should appear with five tabs, go to the second tab that says version, if it patched right you should see this 1.5.0.22 where the version number is located!..

hope this helped!.. thx Craig

I really find the game Fun too!

You can turn on fast reply in your personal account settings so you don't quote everyone when you reply to a message. I don't know why the REPLY button is loading QUOTE when we are clicking to reply instead of quote, but the replay button does that when I click on it.

I either delete the quote manually with the edit button if I simply am in a hurry and forget.

I find that EDIT button with "Full Edit and Quick Edit" comes in handy when my spelling or my explanation looks like my focus is trying to rush me back to playing the game.

Well, craigsters, your solution was no go for me. I did the one hour walk in the park(my dog was greatfull though) leaving the patch to happily digest my files. Unfortunately, after about 3 hours(on my return) it stoped responding, and i had to kill the patching process. So, i think i will wait for Fallout 4. By the way, Beth patching staff is oficialy on my "people to kill" list. In the top ten.

Sorry for my english.

Right now i just lost the will to do enything witch the game. Idont want to play this bugged thing. DAmn, i was so hyped in the beggining. It was the first game i bought. Im a big, big fan of previous versions of Fallout. Right now there are only two Fallout games for me. Fallout 3 is NOT one of them. It's so sad...

In task Manager the patch said it stopped responding for me as well, but when I went to my program bethesda folder and clicked on the exe of the game it showed I was patched with 1.5.0.22 and I've been playing broken steel for the last phew days with no problems what so ever!..
