Please note: this is not a post to hate on Vortex. It's simply a warning to vortex users about a possible situation they might encounter and want to checkup on in their own installations, to make sure things are *really* working right, as well as telling you how easy it appears to be to fix (so far)

The "content" column of the Vortex mod manager displays the contents (duh) of the mod it accompanies.

Today, while I was watching some YT "Best Skyrim mods you gotta like download like now!" showcase video (housebound and I get bored, so sue me), I remembered that although I installed Cathedral Flowers a long long time ago, I'd begun seeing the vanilla wildflowers recently, instead of the big fat in-your-face displays that Cathedral provides, and I decided to look into it. (vanilla are fine while in 1st person, but when in third-person, like I usually roam, they're all but invisible)

Well... it turns out that along the way during the past couple months, some mod installation resulted in Vortex completely wiping the contents of the textures and meshes folders for Cathedral Flowers.

Awesome... but it gets better... I've now found another ~half dozen mods that were also completely wiped. Skyrim throws no errors, and if you don't know that EMPTY in the content column, means something's wrong, then well, nothing's wrong, amirite?

And yes, I say Vortex, because I DO remember some cryptic messages from Vortex regarding deleting some additional files during the deploy process following installation of some mods over the past few months. I figured they were files associated with the old version of the mods they were updating, and so I gave the go-ahead, but no, it appears that the deleted files actually included files from mods other than those I'd just installed.

The good thing is that reinstalling Cathedral flowers fixed it's proper status and all the mesh and texture files are back where they belong. I presume/hope the same will be true for the other mods that show "Empty" status, at least once I reinstall them.

ok that's all

ymmv, etc.

Thanks for making me realize I am not alone on this topic, because you recognized a mod's folders contents that had been cleaned out. So have I. The mod's folder content it cleaned out... I was stumped.

I switched back to MO2 and found why I think Vortex and MO2 do that once in awhile. All the controlled mods by them is in a separate folder, leaving all the Data folders out which commonly aren't there in a fresh installation of the game.

What does Vortex do with the mods we use it to make our game better? It has a folder in the main game page, just like MO2.

The folder the 2 mod organizers used put all the mods in another folder inside it. M

Installing mods manually makes it so we must install a meshes folder, a texture folder, and so on.

Whatever the reason, it's worth taking a glance at one's mod listing, at least if a Vortex user, and maybe especially if a Vortex user with a long modlist, where one might not normally scan them for a content field that afaik doesn't even have an entry in the Contents field discriminator to list all occurrences. I found seven (7) mods that were installed but nonfunctional, since their files had all been deleted.

Neither have I. From the 6 mods I've fixed so far, (I don't care about #7 and will be uninstalling anyway), it appears that all the files involved in this "mystery" were deleted within a few months ago. And as to Vortex again, same goes for the "changes were made... N files are about to be deleted" followed by a choice between two options that is as clear as pea soup every time I encounter it. (or failing that, go do something else and forget playing Skyrim, since the deployment will fail)
