colourwheel
@HeyYou Honestly that really depends on your own "perception" considering the way he phased how the black community was "happy" compared to now a days in his statement. The reason why I would say it being derogatory is because the fact that he "claims" the black community was happier during the pre-civil rights era when in fact during this time it is well know for the repression of these people was still beyond believe compared to now. As if he claims black people from the south were no better off, being repressed as 2nd class citizens, to only be looked upon no greater than someone who as Phil's states in his own words as being as himself "white trash"... I don't know about you but "white trash" isn't highly looked upon by any society.... If I was compared to as being "white trash" as an equivalent to anything I think I would be insulted too... Phil can degrade himself all he wants but wasn't really wise for him to bring in a whole community from the south within his comparison. In my opinion, his statements were very disrespectful... HeyYou
Don't think there is anything in the constitution that requires everything you say to be 'respectful' though. (though I would imagine there is something in the bible about it.....) Phil is simply expressing his opinions. Something he has every right to do. Some folks don't like his opinions, that doesn't really come as a surprise, but, that doesn't change the fact that he has the right to express them. Especially when directly ASKED. I would also point out, that being 'opinions', does not necessarily imply that he is 'right'. Everyone has opinions. No one has an opinion that everyone will agree with. GLAAD needs to figure that out, and get over themselves. The black community isn't raising a big stink about his other comments. Are the gays just more sensitive? Do they think that any criticism of their lifestyle should be considered 'hate speech', and the person expressing their PERSONAL views taken to task for it? By what right do they find themselves so entitled as to control what folks say?
