Harbringe
Here's a very interesting discussion of what terrorism is and in the case of N Ireland the steps that were required to put peace on a sound footing. This just aired this week.
HeyYou
On Al-Jazeera television? Seriously?
Harbringe
On Al-Jazeera television? Seriously? Being held at Oxford University , with panelists generally of a western bent (one considered the leading expert on terrorism) , a white western woman no less and your problem is that its being aired on Al - Jazeera , seriously . Maybe you should be asking why such in depth discussions on such sensitive topics are not being aired on our Western media . For someone who in many posts has only bemoaned the state of things , that was a truly weak response. tsk tsk
HeyYou
I am actually quite surprised. Not something I would expect from them. Perhaps there is more to it than my preconceived notions. However, gotta bear in mind the rep they have in the west. (I have no clue where you are from.) To me, they are more associated with extremist muslims, than reasonable discourse on such a touchy topic.
Zippertrain85
The difference is only in the eye of the beholder. If you support the government, then someone going to against it is a terrorist in your eyes, if you're against the government, then someone else going against it is a freedom fighter. Lol that's just too funny , I was actually just arguing with myself wondering if you had meant it in a context of surprise and was thinking if I should edit my post with a disclaimer if that was so , but you do touch on a issue of perception (ie making assumption that because it comes from Muslim source it obviously must be extremist) which is oddly appropriate given the subject matter , because that's exactly what we are talking about , what is our perception of a terrorist or freedom fighter. HeyYou
Yeah, "tone of voice" (type?) doesn't really translate well in text. :) Should have seen the look of surprise on my face when the FCC actually APPROVED the sale of Al Gore's television station to Al-Jazeera...... That one just floored me. Al-Jazeera America.... isn't that an interesting contradiction.

Oh I'm sure if and when Al- Jazeera America were to threaten Fox News err Fake News ratings they will intensify their campaign of how Sharia Law is coming to America and its all part of the War on Christianity and that is how a large segment of people in America will form their conclusions on what Al - Jazeera is . And its strange that they will actually have done this without having taken the time to watch or read any of the media Al Jazeera puts out , their just forming their opinion based on the opinion on someone else . That's not the way to be an informed democracy. Same goes for the terrorist/freedom fighter question.
