sgpb
Does anyone know of a mod that is out there that works easy on vista and also for the most recent 1.5 update for fallout 3? I installed the mod manger , and that deativator whatever. But i can't copy the needed files into the right folders. It just won't let me. I need something that will work for this newer version of the game 1.5 anyone know what i could use?
Skotte
1.5:I've heard that some have had luck getting mods to work with Fo3Edit's Meaterupdate I couldn't tell you how well it works ( I use version 1.00.15) Vista:You need to get Admin permissions for your fallout folder, reinstall outside of "Program files" or disable UAC (not recommended) BTW, Welcome to the Nexus
sgpb
yeah but the makers are pretty much putting you in the position of, don't mod or your game won't work with future updates. Oh and i finally got around to registering live... and now my game won't load.. wonderful.. i mean i just invested like 5 hours into the game. Now its only accesable if i stay off live.. ok i fiured out how to copy my save game files to work onto the folder that live uses. however, i had to learn that by searching online. I would think they would have had the last update take care of this. So now i have 2 save game folders. The live saves i can't ever use if i can't get on the internet. Idk i expected more from the company. Why make mods so difficult to use, for gods sake the game is single player! Look at all the games that kick ass even more with mods like half life 2. Alundaio
turning off UAC will make the game work normal. Otherwise install FALLOUT 3 in another directory not the Program Files if you have VISTA. But I have Vista and everything is fine. I use all the top mods + 1.5 patch with FO3 Edit's masterupdate feature.
TGBlank
It's not hard to use mods, but you cannot expect a "next -> next -> next" install and done. 1) GFWL is a plague, use it only to get DLCs and then use FOSE to get rid of it permanently.2) You decided to take 1.5 patch, meaning you now need some mysticism to get mods to work, namely, fo3edit's masterupdate.3) To be able to copy the files, you need to have the proper permissions on your pc. Meaning installing somewhere other than program files, or copying stuff as admin, or turning off UAC, if with that advice you cannot get it to work, and since it's a vista thing that is well documented, Google Is Your Friend. sgpb
you guys might as well be speaking in chinese. Idk anything you guys are refering to. I understand that maybe if i didn't have vista it wouldn't be so difficult. Turning off the UAC ?? i think its called on vista, i've already read that is highly not recommended. I wouldn't know how to do that anyway. Whether or not you agree with how easy or hard it is to mod fallout 3, the fact that the game is singleplayer, the people who made the game shouldn't have been so against it. Now, i shouldn't have installed the patch it seems. Well lordy lordy wtf is wrong with bethesda. I made the huge mistake of assuming the game would have less bugs and be less of a problem with the newest patch. Thanks for screwing me once again. Oh and by the way, i actually had the game dl'd already... but i thought if i purchased it, the retail version would allow for things like trainers and mods. Wrong again! Thats 70 dollars i wasted. Callighan
Dude, I have it on Vista.I installed it on drive D: in its first installation. Now it resides in Prorgam files with UAC turned off. I also use FOMMAnd voila... Vista and Fallout 3 side by side. It's not difficult setting up Fallout 3 on Vista and make it mod-capable. Or you could just turn off the UAC if you're confident. I know I do.
sgpb
Ok, if this is really going to ever get resolved i need to know what alot of these terms are. What is FOMM ? I generally get what UAC means but what is it? How could i turn if off. Also if i installed the game into my d drive, could i still keep my saved game? Other than that i could install it on d if it was in the installation options, otherwise i don't think i'd know how.
Callighan
Okay, first off don't worry if you've already installed it on drive c and applied patch 1.5. FOMM is Fallout Mod Manager. You can get it at:http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=640Next time you start Fallout 3, start it using FOMM instead of the usual launcher. Now, UAC is User Account Control for Vista. It prevents users from modifying the contents of vital folders. It's both a good feature and a boon. You can learn how to disable it here:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-windows-vista/ You can permanently turn UAC off, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're brave. So an alternative is to disable UAC everytime you install a mod and re-enable it once you've finished installing a mod.
sgpb
Well that did work, except for one problem. The mod manager says it can't work properly unless i have uac turned off. I have it off now cause i just installed the mod manager and a item mod. however i wasn't planning on leaving uac off. Am i basically stuck, if i want to use mods i haft to leave uac off, and have my pc unprotected? If i turn uac on, will the item mod still work without using the mod manager? I figured out that if i run the mod manager as an administrator it doesn't give me that error message. I've also tried out the item mod and it is working perfectly. I guess the only question i have now is, will i need to turn off and on uac ( each requires a reboot ) every time i install a mod into the data folder? Well i got a mod working, and i now the game is closing from crashing. Anyone know how to stop the crashes. Now the game is completely unplayable. I wish i never bought the game, tried to mod it, its all just a huge problem.
