BrentNewland
But I can’t help but wonder if the recent slowdown on the Nexus has been due to the expansion of his operation, i.e. support for more and more games. Of course, it could very well be the case that the increased number of games on the Nexus has had no bearing on the server reliability and it's purely down to number of visitors (probably for Skyrim). If that's the case, then I just need that reassurance. But it seems too much of a coincidence, that's all, No. They've said repeatedly that it's because of Skyrim. The site has gotten popular. More users means more resources. You can't just upgrade a server box to 10TB of RAM and a 100TB network card - at some point, you have to distribute your database and web server across multiple machines, and that drastically increases complexity. It's not easy, and it's not cheap. I don’t know the first thing about web design or hosting Yes, that's apparent. Otherwise you wouldn't have made a topic with a Grand Inflammatory title like "NEXUS IS A FAILURE" (which is essentially what you did). For example, in the NMM, is it really necessary to have to download a mod that you like just so you are notified when an update is available? Couldn’t you have mods on your list that you are subscribed to, but haven’t necessarily downloaded to your hard drive? Would this approach save on bandwidth? I know that you can track files on the website, so it makes sense to be able to do it in the mod manager as well. A: There's a "Track" link on every mod that informs you of updates. I don't know why you would want to do that through Nexus Mod Manager.B: This will not save any bandwidth because people generally only want info on mods they have installed.C: This is not a feature many people would want or care about. Additionally, couldn’t I save my mod list from NMM to the cloud, so that it’s available when I reinstall the programme? They've said they're working on this. The ability to save your list of installed mods and switch between mod presets, to save to the server and restore these lists, to share these lists, to automatically segregate your saved games based on your mod loadout. I’m here for Elder Scrolls, and to a lesser extent the Fallout series. I don’t believe that the Nexus should be supporting other games series. That pretty much summarizes your point #3. It's an opinion the site owners don't share, an opinion I don't share, and an opinion I imagine most other users don't share. Why wouldn't you want NexusMods and NMM to support as many games as possible? Have you considered that, maybe, other games "don't benefit as much from modding as Skyrim does" because they don't have the community and tool support that Skyrim does? Have you also considered that bringing NexusMods and NMM support to these games will give them the community and tool support they need for mods to be useful? Who am I to be saying all of this anyway? I didn’t buy the premium membership because I was in love with the site. I bought it because it got me access to special servers that gave me faster downloads. I would happily donate more money to the Nexus – if I thought it was going to an Elder Scrolls site. on the chance that I’m not the only one thinking these things, I hope that some good can come from what I’ve said here. Nothing good can come from whining. You really only gave 2 legitimate ideas in your post; one is pointless, one is already being implemented. Everything else you posted was either complaining or the equivalent of racism applied to games (gameism if you want) - "I'm only here for Bethesda games, you shouldn't bother supporting anything else because I only like Bethesda and their games". MisterFister6969
I tried to comment on this post about an hour ago, but I even received a "database communication error" here, on the forums. Truthfully, all of these white knights who jump to the defense of the Nexus are doing just as much harm as the angry kids who come on here to vent (myself included). The truth is, the Nexus is a failure at this moment in time. Anyone who debates this fact is living in a fantasy land, or has very low expectations of what the Nexus *should* be. The question is, will it ever get any better? Honestly, over the past year things haven't improved at all (at least from my perspective), and if anything it's just gotten worse. I am honestly about ready to uninstall NMM and stick with the *gasp* steam workshop...

Since the release of Skyrim this site has been doing no better than a one legged, 200 hundred years old turtle, so I don't see how a guy with a premium account has no right to complain. But yeah, it's easy to call him "whiny" or "immature" just to gain some kkk points from admins and mods. Better just ban him right away. Lisnpuppy
I don't mind the OP's post particularly. I certainly don't agree with it. However it was said in a polite enough way and he voices his concerns. I guess my frustration is this. This site has been worked upon, improved, attempts made on its improvement and hundreds of thousands of dollars been spent to make it better for everyone. It IS actually much better than it was this time last year, when I basically gave up trying to do anything here for a time because I couldn't. I should say you shouldn't take this time as indicative of the site's functioning. These days of the year are some of the busiest we see with school being out, folks on holiday and various computer game sales. Now...we know it has been worked upon and is being worked on. We know it will continue to be until it runs smooth as a baby's butt. I have no doubt of that. The frustration is to me, that we all know this. Then people come and complain and either don't or can't (due to them or due to there just is not a fix yet) offer any practical solutions. As Robin said in another post, we know there are issues and sometimes it is complete shiitake mushrooms. Robin knows it and his very small, over-worked and underpaid staff works every day to make it better. Does coming and flipping tables help anything? If someone premium member or not, has the right to complain..even if they do...does this improve or solve anything? Complaining or bringing points to light when no one is trying to do anything or fix anything is one thing...being upset and vocal about it when everyone is working so hard seems a bit pointless to me. I am not saying that people should not ask what is going on or turn in bug reports or let us know if the sites are acting up when they have been doing fine. Yes, dear internet gods please do that. If you don't like how things are going here...If you think its a failed experiment or you are unhappy with the service and think there is nothing being done or no hope for improvement...then ask for a refund and find somewhere else to get your mods. There are many fine places to get them and forums in which to ask questions if you are not happy here. If you think that people are working hard, they are concerned and just as irritated as you about the poor running of the site. If you want to try and help with encouragement, genuine bug reports, helping other members on the site, endorsing mods and images and yes, even premium membership...then stick around and when the sites are acting up..gee...find something else to do. This is just a gaming site after all. I for one wouldn't trade places with these coders and Robin in the past year if you offered me a winning lotto ticket. I bet those folks wish they could take some time to download some mods or play a few games...
