Great work on the landscapes so far.

 

I have one question though.

 

How is combat going to work? I mean will NPCs and PCs die in a few hits, is there going to be say like an instant kill for a headshot with bow and arrow, or is it just going to be like normal bros engine?

That's a problem with massive wars, with a large health, it can take 30 seconds of us destroying an enemy in the middle of the war, while the others still waits. Can take a long time.

Lol MERP do not have his own engine, MERP isn't a new game :no: MERP is a mod

Who said anything about a new engine? In what way does my question imply that MERP would need a new engine to accomplish anything I asked? It could be done with a few minor tweaks to the current engine. I just asked if it was going to be left with standard settings. Hell not even critical hits requires anything that hasn't been done before. Look up Unnecessary Violence. Lol!

One option we're considering is using the Unnecessary Violence mod, which really ramps up the standard Oblivion combat imo.

And probably the biggest piece of news is the latest version of the mod was just finished yesterday. Unfortunately I don't know yet if this version will be released to non-team members or not. However I will update you all on how much has been completed in this newest version (I haven't gotten to test it out yet :sweat:).

I know how you can do large battles!

 

alright, if you want maximize how many enemies you can have the player fighting at once you don't use NPCs. they have heavy duty AI packages compared to that of monsters. all you need to do is create a human shaped group of monsters and you should be able to get at least a few more onto the battle field than before. there should be a set area that the player can be on at that time with an invisible wall around it if its a battle on the plains, or if it's in the mountains or a plateau you can have a rock wall on one side with a cliff face that (contrary to the openness of oblivion) you can't jump down. On the other side of the barriers can be activators, like they use in the Imperial City Arena in vanilla oblivion, only instead of cheering fans you can have an army fighting another army. they're out of reach, and because of the way the activators work they'll need to be doing the same motions over and over again, but it should help quite a bit. Besides that, the only actual NPCs you should use for the army on either side are the characters that the player is going to speak to.

 

all of this gives the (rather crude, if effective) illusion of a large battle. perhaps when the player wants the battle to continue, they have to proceed to a new area with new activators that show the push and shove of battle

 

 

 

 

and a final note, I'm a competent voice actor. send me a message if you need a young male done, though I think I'd work best as either a Hobbit or a Man

Those are some interesting ideas Eshenaleros. I'll ask one of the modders what they think. Also if we need any voice actors, we'll be sure to contact you ;)
