BlackRampage
Errr. nothing. I couldn't care less about christmas. My little nephew has his birthday on the 25th though, so I did have to get him presents. Also took my better half to one of the fanciest restaurants we have here. Had a 5 course dinner which cost me a fortune (but it was worth it). Guess I only gave. Didn't get a thing.
AliasTheory
I got a lot of straight up cash with a few gift cards.
Thor.
That's the best kind of gift. Cash is the best way to do it, especially for someone hard to buy for.
AliasTheory
The other way to look at it is that it appears less thoughtful and uninspired. It's just like giving gift cards, rather than buying something specific. One might see the gift as the giver's way of saying, "I don't know what to get you, go get yourself something." While this seems like the safest and best way to satisfy someone, it might show less on the giver's part. If - for example - you received the next book in a series of novels you are avidly reading, then I think that really shows the giver understands and considers you (and your interests) on a more personal level. Lisnpuppy
My Daughter and I always make a gift from her (we have been doing this for years) and as she has gotten older the gifts have become nicer and she has done more and more herself. However as we all like to be a bit crafty it has expanded. Mackenzie made her friends some nice jewelry (with some help) this year and I made a few things (a tree of life kinda like this http://www.favecrafts.com/Metal-and-Wire/Tree-of-Life-Ornament-or-Pendant and some necklaces. I also got a sewing machine some months ago and though I suck pretty much I managed to make a few throw pillows and a few string backpack type things. I also made some wreaths that actually turned out pretty fantastic. Overall all the home-made pressies were very well loved and our family, at least, thinks they are fun to make and get. It lets you be creative and add a more personal touch to things. My daughter got some small things. She loves Hello Kitty. The reason she didn't get but a handful of trinkets (and some stuff I made) is because of a promise I made to her man years ago. I told her we would go somwhere cool together, just she and I...before the end of her 16th year. She turns 16 in January and I gave her two tickets (for April during her spring break) for she and I to go to Seattle. We live on the east coast in the hills of West Virginia so that qualifies as pretty cool. I got a super-cool pocket watch from the husband (yes..chain and all...kinda Steampunky) and a Logitech g19 keyboard. I actually asked for some Amazon cards which my Dad gave me. Not an issue for me since I asked and my Dad usually gives pretty cool stuff. Last year he got me and Mack a star to name. That was really cool as I love space stuff. I actually named it after my Mom who passed a few years passed. Though my parents got divorced some years ago...both my Dad and his long-time current girlfriend both were overjoyed at our choice. My Dad, who is 70...got a golfing card from me that lets him golf around the State for a reduced rate. He golfs every week he can weather-wise and looks like he is 50. Amazing. I cooked (an amazing if I may say) dinner of country spare ribs and cabbage and a bunch of "fixings" and everyone squeezed into my too small house. I even made the dogs some toys. Bean stole them all and we had to re-distribute them..lol. My oldest dog loves to help open presents. After most folks left- the husband, and my daughter and two step-sons (all teenagers!) sat and played a few hands of Magic the Gathering with our new cards, card sleeves and boxes that Santa brought. Good food, family, fun presents making, giving and getting....new ornament for the tree (like every year, another of our traditions.) Everyone was happy, grateful and seemed to really enjoy the day. Not sure how it could have been much better.
Diface
A card holder. A phone case for a Galaxy S4 (I own a Nexus 4. lol). Some makeup. Some nail polish. I guess the only valuable thing I needed was being together with my loved ones for Christmas :P Everyone knows I already own everything that I want, that is: my video games, my car, my dog. Presents don't really mean much for me now.
Pushkatu
A hangover. I got 2 of those, 2 days of work, about 100 EUROs, clothes and some time alone with imaginary girlfriend.
satanslilhelper
Fake moustache tattoos. Ok, technically they were given to my man, but since he has his own real facial hair I pinched them. Awesome.
