Using the console

I've seen alot of references to the console here in this forum. I've even stumbled across it by accident when I pressed the ~ key so I know how to access it. I just don't know what I can do with it.

I'm sure this has been discussed here before and I don't want to commit any necromancy here. So if someone could direct me to a thread where this is dicussed or a tutorial, I would appreciate it.

I tried the search engine, but turned up nothing useful.

You can type HELP into the console to get a list of a few console commands. Do a search on "Morrowind console commands" on your internet search engine and you'll find lists of hundreds of different console commands.

The console can be used to fix minor problems like your character getting stuck in the landscape. It can also be used to give you any weapon or armor in the game. It can be used to make your character a god. Roleplaying purists would probably never use the console. Most players consider it cheating.

The most important one, FIXME, will un-stick you if you run into one of Morrowind's many clipping errors. RA (reset actors) will reset all NPCs to their default locations, which is useful if you get one stubbornly blocking the door.

u can also use it for debugging your save game if you screwed up a quest or something, by changing journalindex and resurecting characters. or for example if you found the dwemer puzzle box before you knew you were supposed to find it and forgot where you put it and don't want to start your character over, you can use additem.

if you really want to know more download scripting for dummies.
