Muffinrex5
I just bought Fallout: NV on the Steam sale because I've heard a lot of good things about it, and I enjoy the Elder Scrolls-games. I stayed up all night, waiting for the game to download. And when it finally finished, and I started it up, the f***ing game crashes to desktop. "FalloutNV.exe has stopped working", is the message I get as the Bethesda splash screen appears. And then it crashes. Obviously, I get pissed of, and do what normally works for me, which is setting it to compitability mode for Windows XP SP3 and running it as admin. This does not work. The same CTD always occur. And so I search the internet for solutions. I've tried..: - Changing "bUseThreadedAI=1" and "iNumHWThreads=2" in Fallout_Default.ini and Fallout.ini, since I have a Quad-core CPU. - Downloading that "d3d9.dll" file The first thing did not work. The d3d9.dll-file however, made it possible for me to play the game for 30 seconds before it gave me the same CTD. My specs are: - Windows 8.1 Home Premium, 64 bit - ASUS GTX770 DirectCU II OC @2047MB - Intel Core i5 3570K @ 3,50Ghz - 8GB Dual-channel DDR3 @686Mhz Does anyone have a fix? I'm so pissed off right now, I've spent hours trying to run this game :/

RoyBatterian
I'll suggest installing NVSE, then adding NVSR and NVAC to the plugins folder. Gopher has a nice video about installing NVSE and NVSR. Don't run the game in XP compatibility mode, remove that option. If you want to try Vista SP2 compatibility mode that might be a good idea and works with the GECK. All of these things are known to increase stability with FNV, without affecting the vanilla game in any way. The game also should have installed the DirectX runtimes, however you may want to check the microsoft site and update it to a current version. DirectX 9 does NOT come with Windows 7 or 8. Try it then WITHOUT the extra d3d9.dll you downloaded first, before using it again if you need to. Edited March 25, 2014 by RoyBatterian
