Shopping mall in Australia means a street that has been paved off and closed to all vehicles but those which have permission to pass through them such as delivery trucks taking items to shops in the mall or security vehicles or police.

 

In America it seems to mean a big shopping complex which in Australia we would call 'a big shopping complex'.

 

More embarrassingly

 

To root in America means to cheer for, to loudly give support for, example, a sports team.

 

In Australia its slang for having sex.

and when ever I hear about an American device called a 'rotor rooter' I am not quite able to deal with it.

Where I live in Scotland the word "fit" can mean either; healthy, good looking, foot, fit (as in "does it fit?"), which or what. The classic question is 'fit fit fits fit fit?' (which foot fits which foot). "Beast" can also be used to describe someone who is good looking, or just as a general statement of pleasure. Scoop is again a statement of pleasure, as is score. The dialect is called 'doric', by the way.
