Crashes around New Vegas, care to have a look at my modlist please?

Hello,

I installed a custom list of mods through Vortex on my fresh New Vegas installation. (almost custom, built on top of an essentials collection) The way I proceeded is I began with a fairly small number (40) then slowly built my way up to a bit more than 200. To be precise, mods, not necessarily plugins.

The problem is when I'm around Vegas, it's always a (fairly short) matter a time before either I encounter bugs or crash. In fact, if I see bugs (most often characters falling through the ground) it's a sign to go to the menu and load again. A few times it's alright, several times in half an hour, it kinda breaks the immersion. In the wilderness/other towns it's nearly flawless, in the DLCs IT IS flawless.

I learnt only recently that removing mods during playthrough is a bad idea. I very rarely did so to avoid potential errors, but I had no choice when some led to crashes during the first seconds of playtime. It's mostly been mods about Freeside. In terms of graphical improvements, it's pretty "light" : Only 1K textures and no ENB.

I know some people aren't crazy about Vortex, but in my case it's the only time (God know I tried, I spent dozens and dozens and dozens of hours on that over the years) I managed to get a large modlist to run flawlessly ; over 400 mods with Oblivion. I did add only a handful of minor mods on top of a collection. I'm trying again with New Vegas, and so far it's pretty good, only getting messy around the main city itself.

The mod listing is mostly made by myself and I'm no expert, but I thought if someone could have a look and see if there are some mods that are a big no-no there and it could fix the solution, I'd greatly appreciate. If I can get it to a near-perfect state, I could upload it as a collection, as it seems to be a little bit different than the other collections out there. (More oriented flavour than gameplay. More, not only. ;) )

Here's the modlist. Many thanks to whoever spend a bit of his time over this matter. Have a great day!

Are you using NVLO Re-remastered?

There's also a remaster of vault22floral overhaul and NVInteriors.

Also, it looks like you aren't using some of the essential bug/engine fixes - they're listed on the Viva New Vegas guide.

Don't listen to the FUD about Vortex - it's mostly people who don't know what they're talking about, repeating the biased, uninformed opinions of other people who don't know what they're talking about.

Case in point here.

Hello,

Following your advice, I installed Viva New Vegas collection on top of my current list, and after playing for a few hours, I can tell you that it works "flawlessly". In fact, it did more than fix the crashes, the game is now more reactive. To have a fairly big modlist, steady as it has the needed patches for a solid foundation, it feels much more encouraging to delve a bit deeper into the modding realm.

I might try one day to push it further and try the MP add-on of New Vegas, and if it works well, it would be a nice coop experience. But just as it is, it makes a great typical fallout experience.

Thanks a lot gnarly1, your recommendation have been very helpful, it's appreciated, really.

Have a nice day. :)

(P.S. - I do have NVLO Re-remastered. Anything I should know?)

  • 2 weeks later...

You're welcome - glad it all worked out. And thanks for posting back with a report of your success - people rarely do that, unfortunately.

Re NVLO re-remastered: just checking you had that mod and not the older ones which are problematic.
