BlazeStryker
I have never taken the path of cutting the Eldergleam. Heck, I made a point of installing the regrowth mod for the sapling the day it dropped. But the thought has come to me on occasion; just what could you expect if you went with Danica's idea and forcibly hurt the Eldergleam to restore Gildergreen? I don't think Eldergleam should die (although you should darn well be unwelcome at the Sanctuary for life after that) but I can't see this twisting of the natural order going all that smoothly. If I could mod at all, I'd have it play out over time: 1) the weather in the plains around Whiterun changes over time to have violent storms periodically.2) the player needs to undertake a quest to appease Kynereath.3) the Gildergreen turns black-barked and strange, changing into Ebongleam the Tree of Storms.4) while the player's appeasing Kynereath, Danica Pure-spring is slain by an agent of the Vigil for spurring the use of Nettlebane. If the Vigil is to be portrayed as a bunch of intolerant witch-hunters, then let's go.
IsharaMeradin
Part of that is there. If you do decide to take the sap, the pilgrim who follows you there turns hostile, spriggans awake throughout the sanctuary. If the spriggans do not kill the pilgrims, they will be hostile as well. The atmosphere of the cave even changes, it does give the feeling (somewhat) that the entire place is out to get you. But that is it, the tree in Whiterun gets better over time. And nothing else changes in the overworld.
anjenthedog
I generally resurrect the two NPCs after I've dispatched the spriggans NPCs like that guy at the temple have a bad habit of starting fights while traveling with them, so I just avoid them if at all possible. Even if it means swiping at the roots of some cartoon tree three or four times. I'd rather cause a few minor, imaginary scars on a few tree roots than have to wipe out dozens of cartoon creatures and people just to sate his cartoon pacifist's mission. The tree doesn't die. and three spriggans for a half dozen wolves, a tiger or two, and 15-20 bandits, not to mention the potential for a dragon fight as well... seems a good tradeoff to me.
