DonQuixoteIII
First, and foremost, Vorex DOES NOT uninstall itself using the Uninstall program. It leaves behind cruft in several places, most notably in Program Files and several folders in users\<user>\appdata... This leads to Vortex reading information when supposedly doing a clean install... Second, it does a V. poor job of registry cleanup. I found over 1000 registry entries, the overwhelming majority from previous attempts to use the program. I know that Windows is part of the problem here, but still. Finally, when starting from a 'fresh' install, Vortex can (and will) ignore user inputs for file locations. So, for instance, the user creates folders in the drive that contains his steam library. called (say) "CP2077 Vortex", "CP2077Vortex Downloads" and "CP2077Vortex Staging", tells Vortex to use them, and Vortex may well 'decide' to use the \user\<user>\appdata\<something> folder instead. IFF Vortex did not give me the ability to test out various setups in a shortish timeframe, it would be way more trouble than it is worth. (I STILL have not figured out the Load Order Rules engine...) Guest deleted34304850
old registry entries aren't a problem. don't trust snake oil "registry cleaner" programs, they're written to make it sound like a problem. it isn't. most programs leave crap laying around in the appdata folder. i use revo uninstaller to clean up all that random garbage. there are others out there, that can also do this.for you to choose where you want vortex to be installed did you choose the custom installer option? from reading your words, it seems like you didn't. choose that. papikuhli
I understand exactly what he is saying having had to go though uninstalling and reinstalling many many times recently attempting to fix the vortex install is corrupt (BUG) after it updated! And yes fully agree it Needs tobe fixed and should uninstall much more cleanly! And it should not uninstall anything but the vortex program! IE ; SKSE64, TOOLS, DLL files not part of vortex, Saved mod profiles, saved games, mods ... it ALSO should not try to auto delete anything on reinstall/startup/deploy and it should be able to recognize and use already existing data instead of recognize then replace/remove. OH AND custom install Same thing!
Guest deleted34304850
if you've had to uninstall/reinstall many many times outside of the program updating then you're doing it wrong because there is NO solution in existence that tells you to do that. Also, as previously stated - many programs leave cruft behind in appdata. If you don't want that, then get a specialist unistall program. problem solved.
papikuhli
@1ae0bfb8 I see it appears you either haven't read the common solutions megathreads and or practice good process troubleshooting. This happens to be the support section of the forum be helpful here and not other wise. I have read several post you have made and you have had your own problems with vortex so again .... Pease refrain from non helpful productive comments in the support section.
Guest deleted34304850
My reply is entirely helpful. Download and run a dedicated uninstall program to rid your system of leftover remnants. It works not only for Vortex but for other applications that do a s#*! job of uninstalling their crap once removed. No thanks necessary. You are more than welcome.
