DirebearCoat
I have Skyrim installed via Steam on a Win11 22H2 install. I tried the instructions on Nexus Mods for the install of the mod Mounted Followers v 1.74-12175-1-74. However, I think those instructions apply to a straight up Skyrim to Windows install, because I couldn't find Skyrim in the file system. I found Steam, but the files in Steam for Skyrim don't look the same as in the instructions. Basically, I need help figuring out how to install mods on Skyrim that got installed via Steam. Thanks. showler
It's highly recommended you choose a mod manager to use. Vortex or MO2 are most common. Nexus Mod Manager is the predecessor to Vortex but is still around. That said, if you go to your Library in Steam, right click the Skyrim entry and choose the "properties" option and then the "local files" tab there will be an option to open the game files in Windows Explorer. This will show you exactly where the root directory of Skyrim is which is where the SkyrimSE.exe file should be.
DirebearCoat
Thank you for your reply. Two more questions, please. After unzipping the compressed file, I got a folder with two files in it. Do I take the two files out of the folder and paste them into the path you said, or do I paste the folder with the files in them into the path that you said? Second question: About the mod handlers you mentioned, will they be able to automatically distinguish between a straight up install of a game and a game installed via Steam, and will the mod managers act accordingly automatically, or do I have to set parameters? showler
2nd first: All the mod managers should be able to locate the game regardless of where it was purchased from and automatically set things up with some minimal input from you. 1st second: What is the folder name? If it's just "data" then you'd want to merge that folder with the existing "data" folder that already exists in your Skyrim folder. So, either drop the folder into the "Skyrim" folder (with the Skyrim executable) or copy the contents of the folder into the "data" folder. Both will accomplish the same thing. Just remember, anything you install manually the mod manager won't be able to help you manage/uninstall later if you choose to use one.
