Not to come across like a condescending, self-congratulating dirt-bag or anything, but I think i'm one of the 8 members on this site that actually read the forum rules before I ever made a post. They could be essentially boiled down to:

1) Be nice(first and most important)

2) Stay on topic

This next one is only really necessary if numbers 1 & 2 are difficult for you to abide by:

3) Be silent

Well, I've read them, but cannot say I've understood them thoroughly, nor did I memorize them...

I'd go for an option like "Yes, but I've forgot them" - haven't found any more suitable answer in the list.

I'm not afraid of being banned, as I've been on different forums for years, and always managed to stay in peace with rules and admins... my only concern is that the fact that I'm new and posting very intensively might attract attention. The fact is that I'm having a free night and nothing much to do and not too bored yet so posting a lot...

Oh, this reminds me. A while back I started on a project to consolidate all the rules in a single location. The goal was to have a single place to get all the info necessary. My idea was to provide a basic list with the most concise explanation as possible for each rule so it could be read fairly quickly by those familiar with such rules. And for those rules that are unclear to someone, provide a "More Info" option that would expand the description to give a more in-depth explanation about the rule along with some examples.

Here is the Work-In-Progress that I forgot about...last edit was January 10, 2009!

TESNexus Rules WIPz

I might pick this project back up and continue working on it again.

EDIT: "Section 2.3 Vote Abuse" can now disappear since the overhaul of the vote system to an endorsement system. Yippie!!!

Because this is about Forum Rules, I want to talk about something, weird.

Yesterday, someone named DrittenReich start a new topic, he wants someone to upload the english version of oblivion.esm. He buy the game legally and in English version (he thinks) but when his strarted playing, it's not the english version, but Spanish ! So he wants someone to upload the english oblivion.esm. He says that we should not help him except we now if that is legal, or not.

I suggest him to ask Bethesda as soon as possible, he says he will. I was afraid he will get banned because of his request. And now, he's banned, for an offensive username.

I don't know if the banned one is him, but I think he is.

EDIT by LHammonds: Yes, he was banned for an offensive username. It was not too smart to ask for a copy of the game either but he was banned for his choice of username.

You will find that talk of piracy (or even mention of it) is not taken lightly here. Your friend may very well be banned. This is a little bit off topic, but your friend can just download the English Patch from the Bethesda website.

To be honest, I at first didn't read the rules. I thought that it was the same old stuff: Don't use swearwords, don't be mean to others, don't spam, don't offend people etc...

But by being on the forum I've just learned much more. I later on did read the rules, in case there was something "totally unique" or something like that, and luckily not :P

The rules here are almost the same rules in real life: Don't copy other people's work, don't abuse rating etc.

I'm so happy that the rules here aren't the same like in cloisters: "Ora et Labora" (Work and pray)

:)

I voted "I'm still learning" and "I hope not". I'm still learning even though I've been a member here for two and a half years and have read the opening post of "All Newbies Read This Before Posting".

Since the rules are not all clearly documented in a single place, you can never truly know when you've broken one of the more obscure ones.

I for instance unknowingly broke a rule and got told off, my post deleted. Not a problem, now that I know that rule I can abide by it. But the rule I had broken (in relation to Morroblivion) is written in a post somewhere in these forums, and isn't truly written as a rule anyway, it was merely inferred from a paragraph on the subject the rule relates to, as I recall. I only know this as upon request for info on this rule I was given a link to this post so that I could read it (I since deleted the PM containing the link, so cannot provide it here).

This rule is not included in the "All Newbies Read This Before Posting" opening post, so I don't know how many other rules may exist which are also not made clearly available for all to read. So some rules can only be learnt after breaking them.

  • 2 weeks later...

This topic isn't visited quite often, can any moderator move this topic to "The Longue", there's less visit in "Forums Rules And Strikes", maybe the fact of cannot reply in banned users informations makes less user visit here.

So would anyone move this to The Longue ? Thanks.

Edit : Someone moved my topic, thanks.

EDIT by LHammonds: You are welcome!
