kubikiri
Oblivion is running at a stable 60FPS on my RTX card, yet it feels very laggy whenever my character moves. Is this an Oblivion thing? Incompatibility on modern hardware/software? I haven't play this game for too long I honestly can't remember how it runs back in the days. RomanR
With thal little info I can't give a sure answer. Assuming your system is win 10, for a start I would try to some things: 1. If not already present, install DirecX June2010 SDK. Win 10 doesn't contain native libraries by itself and is using a wrapper to emulate older APIs. At least it should improve compatibility with such old games.2. In NVidia's Control Panel I would try changes to Oblivion profile: lower the prerendered frames to 1 (I'm using it for old games), enable triple buffering (so drivers will render another frame while waiting to sync with display), switch off CUDA and sub-process optimization (for such old games these are not needed). If a lag is followed by drop off FPS, there are multiple factors like codecs used or sound enchancing SW, system overhead (CPU and disk mainly) etc. Edit: For now I leave mods topic open, as there's no info about them either. DX runtime already installed. While running the game at 60FPS, my GPU fan doesn't even bother spinning, so there is no overheat either. And the frame rate isn't dropping, the game just...lags. Or stutter might be a more precise word.
kubikiri
No I can't believe it. I'm totally wrong. While GPU usage is about 40%, the FPS of the game is about 30. The game didn't even bother running. Or the GPU didn't even bother running. Or both. And the game UI behaves weirdly under 4K resolution too. It only occupies about 2560*1440 pixel of entire screen. RomanR
It's quite question if such old game is even capable to run in such big resolutions, even if componets in your computer would handle such old game easily. Also don't forget that Oblivion isn't a multicore game. It mostly utilizes 2 cores and as I tried to measure it, one core is utilized at about 50 through 75 percent, while other is about 33 - 45. This is what I saw using standard process viewer on my old Win 7. Can you measure CPU usage while running Oblivion to what cores are utilized and if one goes to 100%? In my case I measured it by running Oblivion as windowed in 1024x768 and with process viewer opened beside it, so I could see graphs for every core. Still as I mentioned earlier, the problem could be anywhere else, beginning with Oblivion's incompatibility with newer desktop features (what happens if you try to run Oblivion as Admin in fullscreen?), power management problems and ending with background processes eating your entire power (updating or similar) or unstable component or bad driver slowing down your system, as Windows must handle errors it creates. Such problems can be hard to diagnose, even for experienced users. Edited September 28, 2023 by RomanR
Oblivionaddicted
Oblivion reloaded is known to cause all sorts of problems, you should probably better uninstall it. What do you use to sort your load order? Edited October 29, 2023 by Oblivionaddicted

Oblivion reloaded is known to cause all sorts of problems, you should probably better uninstall it. What do you use to your load order? I use BOSS with some custom rules for sorting mods. It looks messy by today's standards, but was perfect fine when I was playing the game. Anyway, sorry for the late reply. I was building my first Skyrim AE modlist recently. After that's done, I plan to update my Oblivion modlist (which is actually over ten years old), hopefully solving performance and UI problems. Thanks, and I'll update this post after the modlist is done (may take a while).
kubikiri
Hi everyone. It's nearly a year since last reply and no I didn't forget this thread or die. I just decided this game is too old and broken to be fixed, it's not worth my time and effort, so I just deleted it. I still have a backup for the game folder packed in an archive. Maybe someday I'll have enough time and interest to try it again. But I'm sure something more interesting will come before this. Like...Skyblivion? By the way, my Skyrim AE and TTW modlists are complete and Fallout 4 modlist is currently in the work. Edited September 4 by kubikiri
