fruityl
First things first, Full Respect to all modders out there for making a great game a near perfect game. That alone gets you all a big shout in my books :) Secondly, THANKYOU! Thankyou all for putting so much time into modding then sharing it with us all so we too can have this same drooly gameplay and visual eyecandy :P Thirdly and just as importantly you guys rock for continuing to offer help at the expense of your own time and effort. I'm sure sometimes people forget this when i see some of thier comments and questions. Right, on with my query and some questions:( . I intend to install FCOM, but after days of hunting arround in forums for answers to my questions so i dont repost and endup getting snapped at i am feeling near defeated :(. so i will just ask and hope for the best. Question 1: The base.I want to install FCOM on a FRESH install of Oblivion & official Expansion packs before even playing it.I have both official expansion packs "Knights of the Nine" & "Shivering Isles"OK, Sofar so good. So at this point i take it i just install these as normal, I.E 1: Install Oblivion ,then update with OBLIVION v1.2.0416.exe 2: Install Knights of the Nine , 3: Install Shivering Isles then update that with ShiveringIsles_v1.2.0416English.exe then maybe just check that fires up ok then quit. Is that correct ? (Please dont make a nasty comment if this seems like a stupid question when a simple yes or no will do ) I'm just making sure that if there is a problem later it is not because a stupid mistake at the very start that will Prevent FCOM from ever working. Question 2: Getting EVERYTHING needed to qet an upto date version of FCOM that is known to work.Is there a place online where there is a checklist or download list with a direct link to the EXACT files needed ?, By this i meen not an instruction like get MMM 3.7 Beta Patch with a link to a page where there are more then one files that have MMM 3.7 Beta Patch in thier names :( For me this is important because i know i will struggle getting FCOM to work and need it as foolproof as possible but i dont want to spend hours experimenting with the wrong file which will never work. This is why i need a direct links to the file needed or atleast an instuction that names the file by its full name so i wont have to guess which file was meant or wont need to experiment later. Many thanks for reading my request and if it seems like i have had a poke at somebodies instructions, that was realy not my intention because I fully respect anybody that tries to help others. I'm sure that most typed out guides are fine for most people. For me tho, i will stuggle to get FCOM to work ,especialy since its a major mod that will inevitably conflict with others, BUT i will get there in the end if i have exacly all the files i need. I just dont want to spend a lot of time finding out what i have downloaded will never work. The reward is there for me :) but i want it to be do-able if you get my point :). dezdimona
if you install SI,use just the SI official patch as it contains the OBlivion official patch as well. I would still get the UOP( unofficial patch) and install that one before the SI patch.I don't use focom, so no help there...sorry.

Do not use both, only the SI patch. The first is only for people who have only Oblivion and want to go 1.2.0416. That patch for SI already includes the patches for Oblivion. Note it is somewhat smaller, this is because SI already 'patches' Oblivion to the version at it's releasing. Note too that installing SI over a patched 1.2.0416 is fine, but patching a SI game with Oblivions patch IS NOT... So, if you did patch using that oblivion's one... reinstall SI so to 'correct' things, and afterward patch using ONLY the SI patch. The same is not valid for the unofficial patches... in that case BOTH need to be installed. PS edit: Think "official" patches for SI, actually the very SI, are aways higher that just the patches for vanilla version of the game... if or when patching a SI game with a patch meant for vanilla's will destroy some things the DLC need to work properly. fruityl
I wasnt questioning What she said about only using the Si patch if you care to read again :( i was questioning her choice of words because like i said up there, I.E , the one i should use is smaller so that in itself says that the install of SI expansion pack contains atleast some of the data that can be found in the normal oblivion patch, minus the little bit of data to patch the the whole game to v1.2.041. :( i think i should just give up :( ok , question 3 : Does anybody know if the ShiveringIsles expansion contains some of the data found in the Oblivion_v1.2.0416UK.exe (obviously excluding the data that patches both to v1.2.041 because thats NEW. ??? bben46
We have answered this same question hundreds of times. Shivering Isles itself patches Oblivion up to the release of SI you have. That is why the new SI patch is smaller than the Oblivion patch. And why you do not use the new Oblivion patch if you have SI. Here is my write up, essentially the same as Dezi's and Noisabs advice, just presented slightly differently. If you got your game through a download such as D2D, You have to go to them for any patches. The ones at the official site will not work because of the D2D copy protection. Programs like OBSE will probably not work because of the D2D copy protection. If you have a pirate version, sorry about your luck. Don't be so cheap, buy the game. ( I don't have any info on the Steam version yet) If you have the Game of the Year version, you don't need a patch. To find what version you have, look in the lower left corner on the loading screen. If it shows v1.2.0416 you already have the latest patch. You only need to install the latest patch, v1.2.0416, all of the stuff from earlier patches are included. If you have Shivering Isles, DO NOT use the Oblivion patch, ONLY use the latest Shivering Isles patch. All of the oblivion stuff is included. There is only one English version SI patch for both US & UK versions. If you DO NOT have Shivering Isles, use only the latest Oblivion patch for the language version on your original install disk. Be sure to get your patch from the official Bethesda site where they have FREE patches for every language version, There are 2 English versions, UK & US be sure to get the one that matches your disk.
