I've been having the same problem no matter what browser I use. The only browsers on my computer are Edge Canary and regular Edge, though on my phone I've tried Edge, Samsung Internet, and Chrome, in and out of incognito mode, with all of those giving the same errors described earlier in the thread. I guess I'm stuck being Myspace Tom.

For what it's worth, this is what my console gives out when the errors show:

Ok so please try these steps:

  1. While viewing the change avatar page, click log out in the top right.
  2. Then, go to https://users.nexusmods.com/account/profile and click "Log out" there too.
  3. This should have completely logged you out.
  4. Log back in at https://users.nexusmods.com/ and then again on the page to change your avatar.

I'm hoping this will work and that because you were logged in when the avatar editing feature was launched your session just needs refreshing to allow you to change it.

This hasn't worked for me sadly. Even after deleting cookies, I still get the same errors. I did do some more digging around in the browser console, though, and it's giving me a 401 response because of a token refresh error ("An error occurred when attempting to retrieve a token. Please re-authenticate."); this seems like it should've been fixed by doing the steps you just gave, but nope! Chuck Testa.

First I followed your steps on Brave browser,  and get this error after logging back in. It immediately asks me to log back in and when I do the button to switch the picture is not even responsive.

On Chrome after following the same steps I get the same errors as before.  and some new errors when trying to access the forum.

I would like to add this is not just a picture change issue.

* I cannot remove the picture

* not all pics are loading (see pic above)

* after cleaning browser I am having to repeatedly sign in everywhere so I know it was fully cleaned.

* my adblocker is completely disabled for Nexus ( I use ublock origin) As a premium member I do not even use an adblocker here.

* I just now even changed password as suggested by google as a way to troubleshoot error 401 and that did not help either.

Same issue. I've been having it for weeks now and I have no idea what the issue is but it's a little annoying.

Exact same issue here, tested with Firefox and Chrome.

As mentioned above by other users, clicking "Change Profile Picture" from "Account Settings" returns "Oops, page doesn't exist" page and clicking "Log in" at that page again directs to "Change Profile Picture" page, but uploading a picture doesn't work and returns error 401 at browser console
Hope this helps!

Hey guys,

Thanks for all your feedback. It's been very helpful in nailing down the problem. A fix is currently in development but in short, it's a problem with login sessions which explains why only some users had this problem.

The workaround for now if you face this issue is to visit any other page on Nexus Mods Next (here's a good example). Once on this page, you'll be prompted to log in again. After that, go back to https://next.nexusmods.com/settings/avatar and you'll be able to change your avatar!
