must be unique to you. mine, since forever has never, not once, performed an update of anything i didn't know was coming. wonder why that is?

rest of your words are nonsense.

I think he is more referring to the inability to turn off auto-updates, without some third-party software........ An advent of windows 10. Win 7, you could turn off updates altogether, don't know about 8, I avoided that one like the plague. (If I wanted a tablet operating system, I would have BOUGHT a TABLET.....)

Wtf is wrong with half of you? Window's own website is filled with people complaining about HOW WINDOWS DOES NOT NOTIFY YOU WHEN ITS DOING AN UPDATE, INSTEAD DOING IT BEHIND YOUR BACK AT COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE TIMES, RENDERING YOU UNABLE TO USE YOUR COMPUTER AT COMPLETELY RANDOM MOMENTS. If I'm lying, then windows is lying too.

Also, windows does keep removing features with every version. I can list HUNDREDS of things that windows xp can do THAT WINDOWS 10 CANNOT.

Stop it with the denial already. What, are you going to deny that the sky is blue? f*#@ off already and get a f*#@ing job.

Looking into my problem, it would appear that proton only supports certain types of graphic cards. I've tried every fix and they don't make a damned difference. Guess this means my 5 year old graphics card doesn't support proton? That I can never run Skyrim on this thing? I was hoping for better compatibility, instead my $1,000 graphics card can't run the game unless I run windows? Disgusting bullshit. Why am I not allowed to keep the games I love? SE is dead to me due to the SABOTAGING AE UPDATE, and RUNS WORSE ON MY SYSTEM THAN LE EVER DID. So, does this mean I ca never play Skyrim again? Its unplayable even on windows 10, and it straight won't even run on Ubuntu no matter what I do?

I genuinely hope everyone who works for bethesda burns in hell forever for this. You DO NOT vandalize people's stuff. Landlords don't have the right to BURN DOWN THEIR TENETS HOUSES WITH ALL THEIR BELONGINGS INSIDE. Punching people in the face constitutes assault, but destroying data MEANS NOTHING??????

I am not switching back to windows. I am still sticking with Ubuntu even if it means I can only run a handful of games. f*#@ windows, f*#@ bethesda, at least I have a computer I like now. Guess it was futile keeping Skyrim in a working state. Now is the time to accept defeat; bethesda has truly stopped me from playing this game mods or no. Guess I have no reason to come here anymore. Bye, AND f*#@ ALL THE WORTHLESS TROLLS THAT THE MODS REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT I'VE SEEN PEOPLE GET IP BANNED FOR FAR LESS SERIOUS BEHAVIOR.

adding paid for mods to a game is not, in any way, shape or form, equal to, or in any way like having a house burned down.

punching people in the face is not the same as adding content to a game.

your endless, attention-seeking rants are the troll in these forums, especially as each one of them is laden with expletives and threats and other sorts of empty, rage-filled nonsense.

its christmas. i hope santa brings you a present.

it is entirely possible to turn off auto-updates. or, do you think that all pc's all over the world are updated at the same time? microsoft themselves provide means to do this. i mean, i really don't know what else to say. would you like to argue day is night and yesterday is tomorrow as well? that's equally as futile.

some tips:

- upgrade to version 22.10

you can do this from the gui - open the 'software and updates' app. got to the 'updates' tab. go to the 'notify me of a new ubuntu version' change to 'For any new version' - close. you should get a prompt to upgrade.

- sounded like you were having some video codec issues you can add additional proprietary options if you like

sudo add-apt-repository multiverse

sudo apt update

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

-Steam make sure you have proton enabled for your entire library.

- steam -> settings -> compatibility -> enable the two options for "enable steam play" - then also use proton experimental from the drop down box below.

Graphic drivers

-  depends on your GPU. If you're AMD the open source options are the best. if you want to run the bleeding edge versions you can add the oibaf repository [only for ubuntu derived distros]

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

sudo apt update

sudo apt upgrade

- if running nvidia make sure you are running the proprietary drivers

open Software and Updates app

Additional drivers tab

you should see some options there. depending on the age of the gpu i think

using Vortex you can install through the game launcher Lutris (also good for non-steam games). You might need to look that up.

- File manager - can't remember what ubuntu uses but if you are getting no love when you are moving / copying stuff you can always download thunar - in the terminal run sudo thunar - but you can really f your system up if you delete things you shouldnt.

cheers

Well, I guess my Skyrim experiment has come to an end. I found the latest version of proton that would accept my graphics card, and it lags to hell! Clearly, I cannot play Skyrim on Ubuntu. If I want to play Skyrim, I'm going to have to somehow copy my old harddrive onto a sepapate partition. Strangely, it doesn't let me do so while the disc is being use! What the hell? I could do that on my laptop while running windows 10. I thought Linux would be the ideal operating system for me, but its not. Guess I just can never have Skyrim back, can I?

edit: Decided to try factorio. Turns out, IT LAGS TOO. So, installing Ubuntu has downgraded my computer's performance? I no longer meet the system requirements for my games? Wow, either Ubuntu sucks, or this SSD sucks. Guess I'll see if I can copy over my old SSHD to this, or maybe just see if I can install windows 10 on the thing and re-install Skyrim LE on it, and see how it performs. If this stupid ssd ruined my computer, then I have no use for it. $150 in the trash, for a fix that fixed NOTHING. Fml. f*#@ modern tech. f*#@ bethesda. f*#@ the mods that refuse to do anything about the trolls on this board. Why must tech suck so much? This is pure garbage.

do you think the day will come when you share your computer's specs with the world, so that if anyone does wade through your doggrel, they can perhaps offer some advice?

its easy to do in windows and under ubuntu - if you don't know how to do it under ubuntu, you can ask, nicely, and someone can assist you, and then, from there, you may be able to progress.

or, you can just do your usual and have a tantrum.
