I'm starting to second-guess my switch to linux...

Recommended Posts

Its steam eating up my internet. It keeps re-downloading 'updates' for games, even if they haven't been updated for years. They do nothing but sometimes make them not work. I've since 'solved' that by removing all non-linux games, but that's left me with virtually nothing.

Also, the car isn't fully fixed yet. I don't know how much anyone here would know about mechanics, but I guess talking about it would give people an idea of what I'm having to deal with. Long story short, we had to replace the power steering pump, and then experienced a nightmare trying to purge the system of air. Its still not fully done, despite doing all we could, so its still miserable to try and steer. Its doable, but I don't like it, but at this point I was told all I can do is drive it around until it fixes itself (which is technically doing, though slowly). Also, I don't have good experiences fixing cars. I do know how to do it myself, but I've always preferred not to because that knowledge was forced upon me. Fixing this issue proved particularly unpleasant, I'm still sore from it all, and the vehicle is still a pain to drive. At this point, I wish I took it to a mechanic. Yeah, we can't afford it, but for that money I would be willing to avoid this torment. Doing that has sort of traumatized me, probably a mix of how horrible it was and my past experiences doing this s#*! with an obviously delusional 'teacher' who refused to accept when a vehicle was unfixable. I'm still tempted to take it to a mechanic now, just so they can get the air out of the stupid lines so it works properly again. Besides, the oil needs to be changed too anyway.

Ah sorry I misunderstood. I tried to reply to you yesterday but Cloudflare was checking my humanity every few minutes and then chucked me off entirely.

Steam is about settings as well. You can set each game to not to auto-update. If you have many Steam games the updates can seem like they take an eternity especially with a slow connection like ours... You have my sympathy. I let everything update. When it breaks things I remind myself that there aren't enough good bug testers.

GOG has been mentioned before - it's a solution and anything I've bought from there has worked on Linux - sometimes better than it ever did on Windows. But that's a future consideration rather a solution for now.

Cars are a pain. it's a shame they aren't self-repairing like humans are.

Take care!
