Mackintoke
Daaaaamn, I KNEW something was off! In my 700+ hour playthru I have NEVER heard any feral ghoul say anything. Anyone know of any mods for New Vegas that makes em talk more? This thread in Reddit makes me wanna hear them crazy voices: One guy said sometimes they say "Thank... you." after you kill them. LOL damn I really wanna hear that. Also, in Old World Blues there are a fair amount of female lobotomites. So yeah they would be completely silent thanks to the coding. EDIT: I was just thinking about Marked Men in Lonesome Road DLC. Once again, for me, I don't hear them say anything. They don't even scream. But some guys in that Reddit thread are claiming they are supposed to speak. Is this true? And if so, WHY AM I DEPRIVED OF SUCH POETIC DIALOGUE?! Lollia
You know, I just had an epiphany! Switching the female lobotomites to using the CreatureFeralGhoul voice type would not be enough! You know why? Because voice types are linked to gender. It has to be linked to either male or female, not both. And CreatureFeralGhoul is linked to male. So I did some checking. Lobotomites are not creatures like feral ghouls--they are considered to be human actors, which means that they have a gender box selected. Feral ghouls, being considered creatures, don't have the option to be linked to a gender--that's why they can use the voice type without any problems. They're most likely considered male by default and just have a variety of meshes to choose from, the torn tank-top wearing ghouls usually assumed to be female. Â Edit: Did some testing. If I rebuild all the feral ghoul dialogue and assign it to a new voice type flagged for females, I can edit the female lobotomites to use it. Is that something you'd be interested in, Makintoke? Â Edit 2: Decided to go ahead and do it anyway. I'm almost done. But since I'm essentially making copies of the original feral ghoul audio, I decided to experiment, switch it up a bit... I only altered the audio a bit to keep the quality steady, but a gentle change or two later, the lines are a bit more distinctive for female lobotomites. Just a bit, though. Might not make much of an impact when in the thick of combat, but it's worth a try. Â Edit 3: Done! Here it is. Â Â
Mackintoke
Oh cool, thanks! I completed Old World Blues but I don't mind using the teleporter to go back. EDIT: Just FYI, without this mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/49987 Old World Blues does not spawn enemies after it is completed. So thank god I have this mod! I'll check your mod soon. Aside from the female lobotomite voice coding being incorrect, I think this is the main reason why I haven't heard ghouls or lobotomites or even marked men speak. I was always in combat with them all, especially the Lobotomites because god damn they can detect you from a mile away. Ghouls are way easier to fight so I always just wade thru them. Marked Men I only occasionally would scope them out from afar, so I'm too far away to hear idle chit chat. I guess I should try sneaking up on all of them with stealthboys, to test out if they do indeed actually speak among themselves while you're hidden. Radioactivelad
Wasn't there also a bug that caused combat dialogue to rarely, if at all play, and one of the NVSE Plugins in the pantheon fixed it?

Lobotomites (plus feral ghouls and Marked Men for that matter) only have Attack lines; they have to be actively fighting/chasing for you to hear them. Mackintoke
Awwww dammit lol. Well then for some reason my game does not use those voice lines - marked men and lobotomites are totally silent (although I still need to check for female lobotomites, your mod may make them speak) and ghouls only growl, never say intelligible words. WHY GOD, WHY? I WANT TO HEAR THEIR BEAUTIFUL VOICES!

WHY GOD, WHY? I WANT TO HEAR THEIR BEAUTIFUL VOICES! Â Make sure to grab Female Lobotomites Spawn in Big MT, too, so that they can spawn in other places than just the X8 facility. I feel your pain about the sparsity of their voice lines. Maybe it's because I like to spend hours painstakingly recreating voice sets from other games in order to mold them into companion and enemy types, but the amount of voice lines here seems particularly small. If female lobotomites were originally destined to have their own voice type, then maybe the males were, too. I'm not making any promises, but one of my passion projects for Skyrim is looking like it might benefit from some actual voice acting down the road (I don't use AI generation for various reasons). Maybe--MAYBE--I'll look into experimenting with some voice acting for lobotomites first; work with something a bit smaller in scale to get an idea about what it's like to collaborate with another human or two...
