Annoying Vanilla Movement Bug, that everyone has (probably)

Hello,

i found this headache inducing movement bug in vanilla Skyrim SE/AE (yes guys, you probably all have this bug), and i'm curious if anyone knows a fix for this:

In Skyrim SE/AE the player character stutters when starting to run or when changing movement speed, WHILE being on any sloped ground (hill). Unlike in Skyrim LE, where the movement is smooth. Take a look at this video if interested, i showcased it there.

The problem doesn't seem to get fixed by any mod. Not by bugfix mods (i tried many) or miraculously by mods that alter movement like True Directional Movement, S.M.C. - Skyrim Motion Control, or by mods that change animations - stutter happens even while t-posing, but not in LE.

Additionally i tried to see if different versions of Skyrim would fix the problem, but to no avail. 1.6.1170, 1.6.640 and 1.5.97 are the ones i tested. I even tried installing Skyrim on an other computer, that never had any mods installed - and the bug still happens.

So, if you have any idea or just want to express your feelings towards this unfortunate matter or if you actually know a fix, you're very welcome to reply :).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Operating System]
Windows 10
[Skyrim Version]
1.6.1170, 1.6.640 and 1.5.97
[Launching Platform]
Steam
[Actions Before Bug]
Clean install for version 1.6.1170, then downgrade to 1.6.640, and further downgraded to 1.5.97
[Does doing the same set of actions consistently reproduces the bug?]
Yes

Hmm, it's not something I've ever consciously noticed, and not something that's ever bothered me either.  Still, if I ever learn of a fix for it...

thanks, i dont think many noticed this either, but it's totally gamebreaking for me 😄 since i'm quite the perfectionist...

Explanation 1:

Would probably need to run AnimationCatcher  mod on LE and SE.   However, if you look at the log screenshot posted on that mod page, there is one thing missing.

By comparison, a log from same mod adapted for SE:
[03/11/2024 - 04:24:36PM] [AnimationCatcher <Active effect 5 on  (00000014)>] [Prisoner] got AE : PickNewIdle
[03/11/2024 - 04:24:40PM] [AnimationCatcher <Active effect 5 on  (00000014)>] [Prisoner] got AE : tailMTLocomotion
[03/11/2024 - 04:24:40PM] [AnimationCatcher <Active effect 5 on  (00000014)>] [Prisoner] got AE : turnLeftSlow
[03/11/2024 - 04:24:40PM] [AnimationCatcher <Active effect 5 on  (00000014)>] [Prisoner] got AE : FootLeft
[03/11/2024 - 04:24:41PM] [AnimationCatcher <Active effect 5 on  (00000014)>] [Prisoner] got AE : IdleOffsetStop
[03/11/2024 - 04:24:41PM] [AnimationCatcher <Active effect 5 on  (00000014)>] [Prisoner] got AE : FootRight
[03/11/2024 - 04:24:41PM] [AnimationCatcher <Active effect 5 on  (00000014)>] [Prisoner] got AE : FootLeft
[03/11/2024 - 04:24:41PM] [AnimationCatcher <Active effect 5 on  (00000014)>] [Prisoner] got AE : FootRight
[03/11/2024 - 04:24:42PM] [AnimationCatcher <Active effect 5 on  (00000014)>] [Prisoner] got AE : FootLeft
[03/11/2024 - 04:24:42PM] [AnimationCatcher <Active effect 5 on  (00000014)>] [Prisoner] got AE : FootRight
[03/11/2024 - 04:24:42PM] [AnimationCatcher <Active effect 5 on  (00000014)>] [Prisoner] got AE : FootLeft
[03/11/2024 - 04:24:42PM] [AnimationCatcher <Active effect 5 on  (00000014)>] [Prisoner] got AE : IdleStop
[03/11/2024 - 04:24:42PM] [AnimationCatcher <Active effect 5 on  (00000014)>] [Prisoner] got AE : tailMTIdle
[03/11/2024 - 04:24:42PM] [AnimationCatcher <Active effect 5 on  (00000014)>] [Prisoner] got AE : HeadTrackingOn

I am not seeing the IdleStop animation in that screenshot from LE.   But you could try running  that.   So, if SE has a more advanced behavior graph, playing a 'stopping'  idle when you stop mid-stride, that could be it.  In fact, I think 'IdleStopOffset'  might be the 'stopping on an include' idle.

Explanation 2:

Inverse Foot Kinematics, where feet positions adapt to the surface upon stopping.

I had a "moment" in Skyrim where I suffered that oddity, (likely due to some mismatch of mods), but it was about 2 or 3 years ago. Haven't seen it since.

*moment >> about two or 3 months of its exhibition.

At a guess, I'd consider a clash of movement vs any installed "player idles" mods.

Thanks for the reply!

I investigated explanation 1 a bit and ran AnimationCatcher on SE and LE, and it seems LE has also got the IdleStop and IdleOffsetStop. I couldn't identify any oddities there unfortunately. here's a video of it and explaning screenshots:

AnimationCatcher Screenshot LE:

Only thing i found out is, contrary to what i thought before, the stutter animation is not playing in SE while T-posing.

Maybe the stutter has something to do with your second explanation. I have the feeling in Vanilla SE the character is "Bobbing" around more in general (feet seem to have collision with the floor creating the updown shake), while in SE the character moves very congruent to the ground underneath, seemingly detached from whatever the legs are doing, if you know what i mean..

Actually i think you still have that bug, just didn't notice. Since this seems to be a Vanilla bug (with no mods installed) and also i think there is no fix for it yet.

But if you indeed don't have that stutter while starting to run/walk/sprint while on a hill, i'd be highly interested to see your load order or a video of your game without this bug. Because this would probably mean you have a bugfix for it installed. I get it, if it would be too much effort tho.

IF it still exhibits, it doesn't do so noticably, which it did in a very pronounced way at the time I recognized it as being an annoying "glitch" in my game.

Anyway, good luck. Hope you can solve your issue.
