MilneCat
I have been managing one game in Vortex (Cyberpunk 2077). I have eight profiles. Or had, actually. I cloned my default profile (which is empty) and downloaded the updated City of Dreams (Heavy) by V2 rev 58 to it. Everything is fine. I close Vortex and then restart it, ready to delete the old profile for City of Dreams (Heavy) by v2 rev 57. Vortex says I am not managing any games at all. I tried to re-add Cyberpunk 2077 and end up with just my default profile, but an error saying "Failed to set game mode" I had other mod collections pending updates by their curators. I spent over 4 weeks preparing my own Collection with ~450 mods. I was just tweaking the last few, getting ready to publish it. It no longer exists?!?!? What the hell happened, and how do I get all my profiles back? The downloaded files are all there. Why is Vortex ignoring my existing profiles?!?!?! MilneCat
Seeing the note about .Net 8.0 runtime, I exited Vortex, ran the .Net installer, then restarted Vortex. Did not change anything.

Solution MilneCat Posted April 1, 2024 Author Solution Share Posted April 1, 2024 OK, so no one was replying to this, so I dug deeper. Found the Profiles in a Vortex folder in AppData/Roaming. So they aren't lost. The error message wasn't helpful, but then I ran verify on my Steam Installed Files and something that was missing in the base game was restored. Poof! It's back.
Pickysaurus
Thanks for coming back with the solution. It sounds like you broke your game install to the point where Vortex could no longer "see" it.
