Suddenly the object preview window in CK stopped working properly.

Recommended Posts

Sorry, I posted in the wrong place earlier, so I'll post here as well.

When I select objects lined up in the object window, right-click and select preview, the window appears, but the preview is no longer displayed properly. It previews momentarily and then disappears. Has anyone experienced a similar situation in the past? Is there a solution?

I reinstalled CK and restarted the PC, but there is no change.

Hello. I'm sorry for the late reply. I haven't looked at the forum for a while.

Although I have almost identified the cause of this problem(in my development environment), I have not yet reached a complete solution.

I'm using Windows10Home64bit, and this problem is with Windows Update. There is a security update program KB5036892 among the updates released since April, and this is the cause of this problem.
The only solution is to uninstall KB5036892 and restart PC.

I'm currently using CK Ver.1.6.1130.0.

If there is a problem with CK, I think it is an existing problem that has surfaced. If the problem is with the update (indeed, there are problems in other areas as well), I can only hope that a better update will be released in due course.

I'll add that for Windows 11 users the equivalent update should be KB5036893. Go to Settings -> Windows Update -> Update history -> Uninstall updates.

However, I'm specifically running Windows 11 Home Insider Preview, which is probably why that update doesn't appear at all in my update history (either that, or because I regularly purge old update files to save space - oops!). The only update I can uninstall is KB5037588 which was installed after this issue started. It's a little annoying. I'm wondering if anyone else in a similar boat managed to fix it.

Ok, update...   yesterday I ran Windows Update, (Win 10 64-bit)   and installed available updates

KB5034441
KB5036979 - I think this one was in the 'optional'  category
KB5037724

And now in CK, my Preview window is working fine again.

Update, I seem to have fixed it for myself but not through installing or uninstalling any Windows updates. I installed Creation Kit Platform Extended for Skyrim for an unrelated reason (I already had the older SSE Creation Kit Fixes, but CK is still volatile as all hell and I got fed up after experiencing 4 crashes in quick succession dealing with Havok physics) and it actually fixed the flickering on my end.

So, for anyone on Windows 11, installing that might work for you as well.

I can't uninstall “KB5036892”. When I try to uninstall it through the Update Center, an error appears: “An error occurred. Failed to remove some updates”. The same wording appears if I want to roll back the update through System Restore, deleting the latest updates...

UPD: Started poking around in the properties of Creation Kit.exe. And realized that this problem goes away when running the program as administrator. I don't know why, but it worked. Without uninstalling updates “KB5036892” and installing unnecessary fixes on Creation kit.

guy if it designate as optional that only means early release for beta testing and will be compulsory on the next or following update... just give some feedback to microsoft, else you achieve nothing
