Objects pop in and out of diamond city, Preculling issues?

This is happening on vanilla, fresh save, fresh inis, verified game files, updated drivers, the only fix is by using the tpc console command.

If it was just some pop in i wouldn't care but, but since turning off previs culling fixes it and gains me 15 FPS, but it demolishes it in other places.

Anyone have an idea on why's this? I tried installing PRP and it didn't work.

Wow your vision is good! After seeing you found a pop-in I spent several minutes searching that GIF and finally found the one chimney on the right side that pops in and out.

I'm going to log into the game and compare that behavior with my game.

Okay, I spent the last hour or so testing my Diamond City and couldn't find any examples of pop-ins. This said, my game is not remotely vanilla. I have four mods in particular which alter cell(s) in Diamond City area. I list them in the load order I use for them:

1. Nuka Ride (alters some NPCs and doors)

2. Problems of Survivor (adds some NPCs) and adds a toilet in the shrubs left of the detective agency.

3. Commonwealth Slavers (adds and changes several NPCs and uses several DC buildings)

4. Diamond City Expansion (major expansion to Diamond City with many new NPCs, cells, buildings and more)

That last one, the DC Expansion, adds so many new buildings, signs and billboards that the zone shown by bloodhound's photo is cluttered with many new visual obstructions, and there's no opportunity for pop-in.

Bloodhound, if the pop-in(s) at Diamond City bother you, perhaps installing Diamond City Expansion might solve the loss of immersion you are experiencing. Please note that this mod in question must be at the very bottom in the load order of any mods which alter Diamond City.

There are multiple, but the problem is not so much the pop in because if it was just that i'd accept it and move on, but the problem lies in the fact that my frames drop by 15 fps because of it/preculling (which should GAIN you frames) that i know of, ONLY in diamond city, and i'm wondering what the root cause might be because if it was just diamond city, that's cool, i know i can turn off preculling there and call it a day, but what if it's in other places and im running at a lower framerate than what it should be?

Thank you a lot for spending so much time testing! I tried diamond city expansion (even with the previs patch) but it didn't solve it.

The reason i ask is because broken presvibines don't cause pop in like that, they cause flicker. The pop in is indicative of incomplete LOD data. If an object has no LOD meshes(smaller objects usually don't) and is not flagged for 'never fades' it disappears when the first LOD level is loaded(which happens to be around the distance observed in your GIF.

As for your framerate, that is harder to nail down as FPS in Diamond City is crap in the vanilla game anyway.

Thank you for the insight in LOD, that is something im not all too familiar with. I was fiddling with some LOD settings ingame and the inis (fMeshLODLevel1FadeDist and fMeshLODLevel2FadeDist, was at 999999 before, put it on the default values according to STEP, no difference).

I still feel like something's up with the erratic way preculling behaves in there, does everyone else get this pop in and/or  /tpc behavior in diamond city?

I really tried hard to find example of it in my game but just couldn't find any. This said, I'm both very visually impaired and have a heavily modified game, so I may not be the best comparison.

Yeah, those LOD settings in the ini haven't done anything since Fallout 3. Skyrim introduced a more dynamic system that can be created and or altered at runtime so those ini settings are overridden or ignored now.

This may be something that has been addressed by the unofficial patch a long time ago and those of us that have always used it in our base install never see this vanilla behavior.

If this is vanilla, the entire Boston downtown area experiences these kind of FPS issues.

This is why mods like Boston FPS Fix and it's spiritual successor Previsbines Repair Pack (PRP) were born.

My guess is they still won't have fixed this with the upcoming update patch - so mods like PRP will still be needed.
