Hi, I'm new to both Nexus and Vortex and tried deploying a FO4 collection, but on launching the game, it looked identical to vanilla.  I then found this error in the Vortex log, and tried searching the forum, but found no solution.

It appears Vortex is trying to do an illegal  linking operation between separate partitions (download folder in C and game install folder in D)?

Is there anyway to change the Vortex download location to the same drive where the game is installed?

I could try to copy the files manually, but not sure what the linking thing is about.

Or am I totally on the wrong track?

Thanks in advance for your help!

DETAILS BELOW

Problem:  Deployment failed of 7k files during install of a mod collection.  Vanilla game appears un-modded.

Vortex version 1.10.8

OS & Security: Win 11 Home with Defender with default settings.

Log file attached but a single instance of the error is at the bottom-- the log file contains 7k of these same "linking not allowed" errors-- it appears all files in the collection failed to deploy.

Game is installed in D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout

Downloaded mods appeared to have gone to: 'C:\Users\heyfg\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\fallout4\mods

Vortex is installed in default location  "C:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd\Vortex"

FIRST LINE OF ERROR LOG.

Greetings & sorry to hear that you're having troubles.

This looks rather like your Staging folder is not properly setup; it needs to be on the same drive and, if you have them, within the same partition as the game installation. The Downloads, however, can be on any drive, preferably the one with the most available space.

To change the Staging folder, select Settings from the left column of Vortex and then the Mods tab. It's important to note that you should make this change in Vortex and allow Vortex to move the files/information rather than moving them yourself.

If you would like to move the Downloads, this also should be done in Vortex and again is from Settings, then the Download tab.

Good luck & have fun!
