BadAtModd1ng
Hey all, so (as many of us did) I too got screwed by Bethesda and steam auto-update. I was unsuccessful in downgrading my game so I have been waiting for F4SE to update. Now that I have installed the f4se update I have gotten closer to playing than I have in a while, thus brings us to the issue: when I launch f4se through MO2 I get to a black screen with "press any button to start" and the background music for about 2 seconds then crash, any recommendations? Also, I tried launching with and without the BS CC content, same result either way. Is anyone else experiencing this? Do I just have to wait for more stable mod updates? Any input is appreciated, thanks in advance! The game won't launch through steam or through just the f4se_loader.exe, f4se through mo2 is the furthest I have gotten yet. Edit: good evening everyone, as of just now I have gotten the farthest yet on the newest updates, now its a flickering black screen that plays the main theme. Can still only get this far via F4SE through MO2, Just F4SE does not work, neither does regular bethesda launcher. Fallout 4 Script Extender and the Next-Gen update Thanks for that, I hadn't seen that thread yet but I don't really think it answers any of my questions. was there maybe a specific post there you had in mind? I already have the most up to date f4se released
Weightaholic
Try downgrading as per the method below? It's a fairly simple process, albeit a fiddly PITA, and it's super easy to stop the game from autoupdating again. worm82075
You could skip the PITA part and automate the process. Fallout 4 Downgrader

I already have the most up to date f4se released Well first off... F4SE isn't finished being updated yet. Yes, they do have their most stable release out so far.... BUT. Nearly most all Mods that depend on it, AREN'T fully updated either.... and many of them have been pulled off the Nexus... I've lost nearly a quarter of my Mods, they're gone... the modders either quit, or pulled their mods from the Nexus until they have time to focus on doing an update. So even if F4SE is stable, my game is still hugely f*#@ed, and I'll never be able to play it until those Mods return, or I find a way to safely remove them without completely screwing my existing Save Game files. It will be a long... long time, before Fallout 4 runs again like it used too for all of us, because as the folks responsible for the Fallout Script Extender have already pointed out... This update that Bethesda did, is essentially the same as Skyrim SE/AE; replacing the original Skyrim... ALL the old Mods for the original Skyrim, no longer worked for the new version... except in that case, Bethesda kept the original game as a seperate game; so players could essentially have both versions legitimately installed and run as ssperate individual games.... In this case however, the new version of Fallout 4 essentially just replaced the old version... and as many of the gaming websites have printed articles about it.... its basically just killed ALL the old Mods. At least until all the mod authors can either figure out a way to update (which many of them have, but many more still have not) .. or release completely new versions of their mods, that work with the new game. So. Sure. You may have the most up to date release of F4SE. But what about the rest of your mods that depend on it? Edited May 10 by cjc75

I updated all of my big mods that were updated alongside F4SE hoping that would help. I tried downgrading and I tried the downgrader mod suggested by worm82075 both to no avail. Of course the day I decide to play FO4 again is the day it breaks irreparably hahaha
worm82075
Wait, did you downgrade your game without downgrading everything else?
BadAtModd1ng
Yeah my time line wasn't really clear there so I'll straighten it out: decide to play fallout 4 again on april 25-26th-ish> update mods to pre-april 25th latest versions> as they finish downloading I realize FO4 has updated> watch a couple videos talking about preventing updates/downgrading> try to manual downgrade, no luck> try downgrader, doesn't work>try it again, almost works but fails in the last portion. wait again>F4SE starts getting updated and other mods follow> start redownloading> present day. That's essentially the size of it
