Replaying the game, want to modernize it.

I am in need of some feedback and help if posible, I am about to start replaying Fallout 4 again, last time I played it was many years ago. My goal with modding the game is to modernize and improve the game without adding too much stuff or “cheating items”, meaning better graphics, better UI and inventory, better flowing game. And install without having to change and move files around too much, and as much plug’n play as possible.

I tried to mod the game as is with High Res texture pack installed, because i found Vivid Fallout first and it said works with that HR-DLC (I have seen some posts saying to downgrade the game, so I am not sure what will be the better visual experience, downgrade and mod or keep High Res and mod?)

I installed F4SE first, then I decided to use as many Vivid Fallout mods I could so they will work together without too much trouble.

(All in one, Thicket, LOD and Far distant detail, Landskapes parllax occlusion, Complex parallax rocks, armor workbench)

I found and added True Storms and wanted to use RealisticLighting with that, but for some reason Realistic will not work as it looks for TrueStorms.esp file, but the Truestorms is.esm file and would not work.

So I ended up uninstalling TrueStorms and RealisticLighting and instead I installed NAC and “Ultra Exterior Ligting”. I kinda works, but when the NAC mod changes the weather it is like changing the channel on the TV, not gradually but rather instant change, it kinda threw me a bit off.

As for UI mods I was going for FallUI (HUD, Map, inventory, sleep and wait, Workbench). It looks like it works, but I wish I could have better filters like what slots each item fits.

I think most of the mods are working, but I am afraid a few do not, I can't find any way to edit the mods so i tried to install Mod Configuration menu 1.39, but it is not updated yet so it does not work either.

Should I reinstall Fallout 4 without HR pack and downgrade or should I just keep HR pack?

Are there any modding collections I should use instead or should I go for single mods like I have done so far?

I have tried to search but most pages about mods is “top 10” not “best synergy”. Top 10 does not mean they will work together.

Any good tips of what will work best together to give the best graphical experience?

Thanks.

Z

When it was suggested you downgrade your game that did not mean removing the hi-res texture pack. It means rolling the whole game back to before the next gen update so you can use all the mods that haven't been updated.

Rolling back, does it not mean it also removes the hi-res texture pack?

I am playing on steam, in the steam game options I can unmark the hi-res DLC and download only the game it self, will that do?

Something I'd recommend you try:

1)  Natural Landscapes + 4estGimp's SavrenX HD Texture replacers.   (the latter replaces all of the base game texture.BA2's ).  Caution:  Big download - like 25Gb worth.

2)  Seasons Change

-----

That is what I've been using lately and it completely changes the entire look of the game (but it still keeps the vanilla vibe) - and it changes with you (Seasons Change) as the game progresses.

Added:  I'd also look to recompile your own LOD - that too makes a ton of difference especially when you reach elevated locations like Greeenetch Genetics roof or Bunker Hill monument.

While rolling back does not mean to get rid of the Beth HD pack pack you almost certainly should.

It's not that great.

This here is better: (what I use on my desktop)

I also like NAC-X legacy edtion for my weather mod. Its a bit more of a weather mod actually and includes about 15 or so reshades to choose from in setting.

Its a bit heavy on systems resources though so not recommend for older machines as it likes RAM. You cna do gradual changes on NAC-X also, there is a setting for that.

Another thing you want on a new playthrough is Atomic World adds a couple hundred new locations from tiny ( camping spot) to huge ) cities in the glowing sea. I never play w/o it.

Also consider Xander's Aid, a DLC sized quest mod, has great loot but be at leat level 30 and in good power armor when you start it.

The hi-res texture pack is not part of the update but it was updated so it too would need to be rolled back along with each DLC.

The Fallout 4 HD overhaul, acording to the mod it requires

Automatron
Contraptions Workshop
Far Harbor
Nuka World
Vault-Tec Workshop
Wasteland Workshop

To be able to use this mod do I really have to buy this DLC's? I have only Far Harbor atm and most of the others have really bad reviews.

EDIT: Never mind, Green Man Gaming has a Bethesda sale right now, og the DLC's for 70% of. I guess it is worth it at that prise 🙂

Thank you for the recomandation of the HD overhal, will try it.

Do you have any other mods you really like that you are using that does not interfear with that mod ?

No you dont have to buy the extra DLCs.

It simply means that the HD pack INCLUDES textures for those DLCs and supports all those DLCs

The HD pack is multiple files to download and some of them are specifically for those DLCs, if u dont have the DLCs you dont need to download those DLC specific files.
