So I am getting worried, even though Inonly lauch via F4se and have my Steam setting to "only update when I launch the game "

Some users have reported steams sometimes got through their "only update when I launch the game "  and then launching via F4SE only defense.

Some users had their game updated despite that setting.

I also have my .acf set to read only and thats my last level of defense, the game tries to update me via steam and I get a "failed" update message everytime I start up ( thanks to my  .acf file being locked down).

But how long will this defense hold?

Is there something else i can do?

I am not  power user, simple Solutions only 🙂

Maybe I will not start F4SE unless the PC is offline?

Nexushold College needs to sign an armistice:
<<hey we know that hypothetically you have made the UEFI boot, the update, the creation naziclub mandatory*
*(where everything is almost beautiful but not too much otherwise it seems that modders are better than Bethesda programmers)...
So just like in the cold wars, we sign a treaty in the event that you are metaphorically pursuing customers, metaphorically violating the acquired property and right to own and have access to the purchased good.>>

2034 was a strange year with the armistice between elves and humans there was a calm dictated by the peace whip,
Ben Gatez shouted into his pillow 3 times a day since he couldn't do everything he wanted like some sort of delusional Patriot like " the boys".
Things were going well for consumers, but the corporate capital of the companies... the corporate capital of the IBM Minktoft company, on the other hand, was becoming increasingly smaller and they were no longer important and could no longer forcibly inculcate ideologies and policies behind trivial technology.

And this caused the war to break out again because...
1984 never changes without Apple.  In memory of Steve Jobs

The End

There is something else you can do.  Copy the entire Fallout 4 directory to an external backup.   Obviously if/when you add new mods they won't be there, but if the game updates you can copy that back into your existing FO4 firectory.

Having said that, if you set the steam files to read only, you should be good.  AFAIK, steam can't override file permissions on your drive, it doesn't work that way.  Nor should they ever.  That is completely unconscionable and unacceptable behaviour from any software provider.

Thanks!
Yes I have that backed up. 🙂

Plus a complete GOG copy of the game sitting on one of my harddrives also.
