TheN7Monk
Hello everyone, I'm currently on a save file that has crashed randomly a few times during my run with no pattern or reason why it would, but it wasn't detrimental until now. I'm currently on the quest to rescue one of the Oberland sisters from raiders, and after I rescue her and leave the building I am in, that is when it crashes. The first crash happened about a minute after I left on my way to Oberland station, second crash happened right before I got to Oberland station, and the third one happened when I clicked on the ladder to leave. I'm not sure why it is doing this, and on a past save I also had a lot of crashes but I restarted and cleaned up Vortex the best I could to prevent crashes. If there would be anyone able to help me, that would be fantastic. I do have a lot of mods downloaded and I feel like that if I were to list them all out, it would be moot because no one would want to go through my entire list. Any help or suggestions would be helpful! Thank you, and if you need more information about my mods I will be glad to share.
worm82075
If you can't reliably recreate the crash then it probably isn't your mods or their load order. Inexplicable and seemingly random crashes are indicative of save game corruption. How old is your save? Have you added, removed or reordered mods on your current save? Before i stopped doing these things I used to mitigate such crashes by stepping back a bit and then avoiding the location where the crashes occurred but the save was never salvageable because the game would just continue to become more unstable. If you are patient enough to keep moving forward then eventually the save will crash on load and be completely unusable. Edit: This assumes you are competent gaming PC user that isn't running of memory.
TheN7Monk
I have a bad habit of adding new mods into saves, but I never removed any mods off of my save. I'm more than fine on restarting, but is there a way to tell if a save is corrupted outside of the crashes I have been experiencing?
fraquar
If it's repeatable and in the same location - the mod list might be helpful. That is a settlement, so it narrows down the possible causes - if that crash is repeatable.
RavenRock2277
Correct me if I'm wrong, which I might be idk, I know if you use Buffout, it should tell you what is causing it to crash or at the very least where its crashing, but I don't know I've gotten my game saves to finally stop crashing on me at random, unless I forget to restart a new save after adding or deleting mods. But I would try Buffout. When you download it, you go to Documents/Mygames/Fallout/F4SE, and from there you're going to look for a file that says "config.toml". Use notes when opening. But If its not in the F4SE file, just look it up in the "Search this PC" bar
Pellape
I did had similar issues when I used PHP / PRP, the last version, if you are using that one it is? Other than that, the game crash time to time. A modlist is a must to solve your issue. What you can do, is to move back immediately to Oberland by COC to it, so open the console and type: coc OberlandStation All cells are found in this list. She will follow when you do that for sure. as I fast traveled with her before.
fraquar
Over time modding your game you will find that random isn't really random. You just haven't located the common denominator yet. I'll give you one example - which is why to find these things you literally sometimes need to disable EVERYTHING and start adding mods until you find the cause of the crash. ----- Ex. I used to crash entering Concord, even though I had no mods whatsoever that affected the Concord space (nothing touched the magic triangle). What I did have was a mod that altered the animations used by Raiders - and who populates Concord? Raiders. So whenever I triggered loading the Concord space the game had them try to use their weapon (even when I wasn't in visual range) - the game would crash. Sometimes it would let me get all the way to the Museum, and when I entered it and the Raiders started firing - crash. ----- Sometimes it's a mesh, sometimes it's an animation, other times it is specific to a given location - you just have to find out what it is.
