Problems with wall attachments

I'm trying to make some wall mounted lights, but I can't seem to get them to stick to the wall.  I've tried the vanilla "generic wall attachment" snap template, the ones for other wall mounted things like backpack mounts or weapon racks, nothing seems to work.  The lights just want to be placed on the floor.

Any ideas?
