RockMan7632
Alright, so I'm debating whether or not to buy Skyrim AE. Is it just an CC content bundle or will it mess up my modlist?
Karna5
I bought AE, and replacing/upgrading my mods from SE to AE was difficult and extensive, but I think it was worth it. I'm very happy with the purchase, especially because most of the mods I'm now enjoying are intended for AE. To me the main difference between SE and AE is not so much the vanilla game but the modded game.

scorrp10
The big question is: are you running latest version of the game already (1.6.1170) or you are sticking with an older one? (I.e. I run 1.6.1130 with updates disabled) If you are already on 1170, getting AE update will add a bunch of mods to your order, but not really mess it up. But if you are using an earlier version, then getting AE will update the game to 1170.

ArcaneTourist
In that case, you have the latest binaries (1170) and four of the creation club mods. The mods RockMan7632 mentions are the rest of the old CC. Many people consider the CC stuff hit-or-miss and not worth buying. The newer verified creations such as the East Empire expansion are not included in the AE purchase. People use the term "AE" to mean two different things - (1) either a very recent patch version of SSE or (2) the AE purchase that's just more CC. Note that there's a few SKSE mods that don't work with the latest 1170 version. More details at Skyrim Special Edition [uesp.net] and Skyrim Anniversary Edition [uesp.net]. 7531Leonidas
If you decide to purchase the CC expansion stuff (I haven't), make sure to d/l and install the unofficial CC patch(es), and any other bugfix stuff, since the CC mods work as well, or nearly as well, as other Beth stuff. scorrp10
Yeah, "Anniversary Edition" on Steam is basically just a bundle deal - Skyrim Special Edition + Anniversary Upgrade, which is just a bunch of Creation Club mods. But in modder community, "Anniversary Edition" (AE) is basically any game version 1.6.*, which has been introduced in October 2021, while 'Special Edition' (SE) is reserved specifically for version 1.5.97, which has been the latest and greatest for Skyrim from end of 2019 till end of 2021, and for which most advanced mods were written. Generally, any mods that do not include a .dll plugin, should work with AE 100% as well as with SE. And majority of mods including a .dll have since been updated for AE, with a few exceptions.

Good thing is almost all of my mods work with AE Upgrade expect for Nordic UI which I already got an patch for.
