Mod Troubleshooting: Effect applied by mod vanishes if you restart the game

All of a sudden, one of my mods seemingly can't write data on the savegame or can't store its data somewhere else. And I have no idea why. Apparently it's not a plugin mod conflict (maybe an SKSE plugin/dll conflict). This didn't happen before and the mod could save its effects permanently. Now, even though I rolled back my saves from a backup, the effect still persists and the mod appears to be permanently broken.

The mod is Supply and Demand.

I think something else is causing the problem. What is the likely cause of mods not being able to store information they previously could?

In my game, sometimes *visual* effects are missing on load, sometimes they're not. I suspect that it's a load order overwrite by another mod that affects the same overlay layer. Best as I can guess since it's little more than a nuisance in most if not all cases. If you mean TIM or TGM, that's always set to off on load, even if both were in effect at the time of save.

This mod is supposed to save in your game (I think it is) the price fluctuations of sold and bought items. If it isn't writing data on your save as most mods are, it's storing its content elsewhere. The million dollar question is: how is the mod still broken after I disabled my entire mod setup leaving only it and SkyUI so opening containers to test it didn't crash? After I cleaned my save with ReSaver - coincidence or not - it stopped working permanently even in older saves unaffected by any change. After that I restored saves from a backup and deleted the save touched by ReSaver. So the saves are out and all of the mods I use are out. Maybe folder permissions? Maybe SKSE needs a reinstall for some reason? I have no idea why this mod started to behave differently in save games where it used to work perfectly after...*something* happened?

Ok, SO... I found the solution. But it's not what you might think. It's a mixture of weird, unexpected and definitely a blank Hisoka expression like this on my face:

The Shoopiest Shoop - OMG I'M DYING THE LOOK ON HISOKA'S FACE WHEN...

I used to be a programmer, and I used to be really good at debugging. In this case I tested and ruled out every major and minor possibility under the Sun... only to find out this is how the mod works.

I was chasing a ghost, and that's why the bug seemed either "causeless" or with a cause/source so complicated for this kind of situation it involved something beyond Skyrim or MO2, deep into the operating system.

After extensive testing, it seems Supply and Demand really doesn't store the price fluctuations when you load your game, but always updates them correctly when entering a new cell. This means that if you load your game and the prices aren't there, you just have to cross a loading screen on a different cell for the values to turn back to the way they were - thus making the mod's effects permanent as they were intended to be.

Anyway, this serves as an example of that maybe, if the problem is nearly impossible to solve, you're trying to find a cure when there's no disease.
