MO2 Startup Error

Hey guys!

Been using MO2 for years, follow Viva New Vegas to the letter. I've never had issues before, but a couple of days ago (after a couple month's of not using it) I started getting a startup error:

Anyone seen something like this before? It forced me into another "instance", showing me FO3 instead of New Vegas. I was able to get back to the New Vegas instance, which got named "Portable" somehow? Everything looks normal, but I'm a bit scared to mess with it right now.. Any more experienced hands able to help me diagnose and make sure I don't shoot myself in the foot here?

I appreciate any and all help you guys can offer!

Well with several installations of any Bethesda game, require you to use the portable versions for each game. I do not know much about MO2 as I use the original from 2004, Wrye Bash and the latest version is available at Wrye Discord, just some monthes ago, works like a charm as well. Just drop the portable in the FNV, F3, F4, Oblivion, Skyrim, Morrowind or Starfield main folder. Do not work for Daggerfall Unity, but the mod manager for that one works like a charm, inbuilt. Only use the installer if you have 1 single Bethesda game.

MO2 is just a simple copy of Wrye Bash, if you ask me. Wrye is also cool and helpful and I can ask him any stupid question and he try to solve it as well. All Wrye support is done at their Discord. Do not ask them about Mo2, it is just me that can ask Wrye about extra and odd, obscure services, you cannot, I guess as they did specify that at their rules, if I recall right.  😉  Be warned.  😉 I am among the first users of Wrye Bash ever, so we got in contact 20 years ago already and he also liked my stuff and we promote each others, no doubt and I am happy with Wrye Bash. I do use Mo2 sometimes, when wrye Bash cannot solve some stuff, and vice verse. None of them works 100% perfect, nothing do. What I do recall and guess, is that Wrye Bash lacks omod support but all esp installed with the omod from mo2. So if you make a omod, you need Mo2. Honestly, who needs omods really? That is just bad if you ask me. I 7-zip my stuff, works as a charm with Wrye Bash.

Did you make a ticket where you DL:ed Mo2 from?  If not, do that.  😉  If someone really can aid you, they can.  🙂

When I think about it, I did had a similar issue with Wrye Bash, a couple if months ago, because I did use the installer, not the portable. That might also indicate how much they took from Wrye Bash when they made Mo2 as both use python as base. Wryes code is no secret as it is public domain but still, the Wrye Bash team do not support Mo2. The reason is simple, they do not know anything about it. They know Wrye Bash.  😄  I bet the Mo2 team get pissed if Wrye Bash support it and vice verse? IDK really.  😉

I did ask at the Wrye Bash Discord a couple of months ago and the reply was: Use the portable, and I did, and it worked.  😄   Therefor I know this  😉 I have all bloody Bethesda games and now I will test the newest Daggerfall Unity.  😄  I cannot resist. Freeware...

The real pro, share their codes. So does the nvse team among others, NifSkope, Blender, Bethesda when it comes to all their scripts. Me too. I include my sources for Skyrim, not many do that, and that is not good. Is that good for the modding community? Nope. It is not. Sharing is.

Well, how do you have MO2 set up?  Are you using a single MO2 install, with all your games set up in it?  Or separate "portable" MO2 installs for each game?*  (Full disclosure: I do not have FNV set up in MO2 yet, but I am familiar with MO2 from using it -- and MO1 before it -- with Skyrim and Oblivion.)

* I do separate installs myself, since it works better with my Linux setup.  Plus it's how I was used to doing things in MO1 anyway when I was still on Windows.
