Adding shields to the game

Why hasn't anyone does this yet ? I have only seen 1 mod on Nexus that adds shields and they don't look all that good. Why are there not riot shields and metal shields for the brotherhood or some sort of shield for the legion to use ?

I don't think the game engine for FNV supports shields. Bethesda could probably add support for shields fairly easily if they wanted to  (just copy the code from Oblivion or Skyrim) but so far they haven't. I've never looked into it, but I suspect that it could be done, though it would probably be approximately the same level of difficulty as creating kNVSE.

You would also have to change a LOT of animations.

Personally I think it would be a good feature, but I don't see it happening any time soon. I'm guessing that it would require a skill level beyond most modders and also would just be a heck of a lot of work, especially on the animation side of things.

Well there is this mod but the shields don't look very good and the mod itself is old, posted back in 2012. I've never tired it but seeing the comments I'm guessing the main problem is the shields blocking the pipboy.  https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/46963

If someone is willing to put in the time to try and figure out a way to make shields work in New Vegas they could be epic. Especially factions using shields

Can you actually use the shields in that mod or are they just armor/clothing bits that attach to the forearm?

I have no idea...

I've never tried it before. The mods age and the awful looking shields has made me not wanna try it. The modding community for New Vegas has come along way since 2012 so I'm surprised nobody has tried their hand at it at all since 2012

Adding a shield to the forearm is easy, though as noted it will probably interfere with the PipBoy. It's not going to function as a shield though. The best you can do is have it affect your armor stats.

Actually making the shield functional is a whole different ballgame.

Well I'm sure it's possible. The modding community has done far more complex stuff in the past.

Fallout New California (aka Project Brazil, I think) does have shields, and from what I remember of those sessions, the shields do work
