Nearly 2 weeks i spent night and day to get a weapon/add on into this game and i just cant anymore lol. Blender to Nifscope/ Nifskope to Blender isnt working propperly 90% of the time and when its working there is another trap around the corner and it keeps just comming. I just cant...i really tried my absolute best but somehow this overwhelms me.....i love difficultys and an adventure BUT this?

A LOT of respect for the guys who put up stuff for us to enjoy for free, so be nice and donate! I tried and failed for good.

Am i alone? What are your storys?

I would love to be a modder , especially for my passion New Lands mods.

But I have zero skill in this field. Maybe once I retire 🙂

There are no modders that start out with a full set of skills ...

Trial & error. Fall & get up. Fail & try again. That's how you become a modder 😉

Best to take it small step by small step & don't expect results for the first few tries.

Besides finding what you are good at, as we all have our affinity to some aspect of it. Some are good at level design, some at audio effects, others with textures and models. Nobody is a master in all.

2 weeks? That all? 😉

I know, it can be very frustrating and the game has 0 tolerance for errors, but 2 weeks is just enough time to get a taste of the complexity of things and whats needed in tools & knowledge. Took me way longer as that for my first model to work in game, and longer still to figure out how to animate stuff. (and then only gamebryo, not havok)

And that's with prior knowledge of and experience with 3D models. (although old & animation related, not gaming)

As for your points: Using the PyNifly plugin for Blender you can import any nif straight into Blender. Works ok, most of the time. (it has its quirks) and it can export one as well. The biggest problem there are collisions.

Outfit Studio can help to turn an .obj into a .nif. -or- you can get yourself 3DS 2013 with the official plugin to export a .nif. (you will need another mod/plugin to import a .nif to 3DS). This is pretty much the only way to create a proper, complex, collision. (there are ways to create some with nifskope too)

There are many different levels of modding.  I recall when I first tried to make 3d starships for the Star Trek Armada game I had a most difficult time wrapping my head around 3d concepts.  I tried, failed.  Tried some more, failed some more.  Eventually, it slowly started to click.  I guess what I am trying to say is this, "if you have a passion for 3d modelling or modding in general, keep after it."  Also, find forums where you can post your work in progress (WIP), and explain what you are doing and problems you have  encountered.  There are some very gifted 3d modelers within the FO4 community and I want to think that help is out there if you are willing to ask for it.  The phrase "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again" comes to mind.  If you have passion and a desire for this type of work, the skills can be learned.    Ask yourself questions along the journey, what skills do I need to master to accomplish the goal/project? What do I need to do in order to acquire those skills?  Software skills, hardware skills, life skills, math skills etc.  Be patient as you follow your passion.

I have an acquaintance who makes beautiful, hand-crafted guitars and mandolins. He's somewhat of a local legend in my neck of the woods, and his instruments are treasured by those lucky enough to have acquired one. He was a carpenter by trade and didn't start building instruments until he was nearing retirement. He said that for the first several years he spent learning to build instruments, all he produced was a lot of very expensive fire wood. That from a guy who'd already spent a lifetime working with wood.

When I was two weeks into learning asset creation, I doubt I was much further along than making big boxes and little boxes. But I knew from the moment I installed my first mod for FO4 that I wanted to learn how to make these things myself. I briefly dabbled with mods for BF1942 years before, but never to the point where I was making my own assets. I think the farthest I got was a few texture and sound replacements. I don't know what it was about FO4 that set me off down the modding path in such a way, but once I got the bug, I wasn't going to stop until I had something that actually worked in game.

So much trial and error. SO many hours hunting for clues online. So much expensive fire wood. But then I'd have a breakthrough. Learn just enough to feed the flame. Little by little I'd learn enough to feel I was making progress. It's those breakthroughs that still keep the juices flowing. There's a thread in the modder's forum asking What Compels You to Mod? I've yet to respond, but if I did it would be all about learning a new skill, figuring out a game mechanic, combining a new skill with an old to perhaps bring something to the game that nobody's thought of before. Breakthroughs.

Weapons and armors should be far down the path if you're just starting out. Make a box. Maybe a really nice box. Then learn to get it into the game. That's the first big step. Making something that actually shows up in game without crashing. Then make a box you can maybe sit on, or one that picks up Diamond City Radio. Baby steps. Those baby steps result in breakthroughs.

If this is something you really want to do, keep at it.

There is something seriously wrong with people recommending others "obtain" 3DSMax 2013 "legitimately" to create projects with it - especially if they don't know how to use it in the first place.    Only way you can get it (and keep it) is to either a) become a pirate, or b) upgrade - which comes at massive cost.
