AdamOrtiz1
I read the guidelines and it said copyrighted content is prohibited, but does this apply to files that include proper credits being given to the copyright owner? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question.
showler
Credits aren't enough unless you have permission to use the content. Express written permission.

Thank you, I'll try and get on that. Are there exceptions to this, though, such as audio? I referred to other mods that are quite popular that include copyrighted content (i.e. Shrek's house mod) and they seem to be fine in the eyes of the mods. Also, the audio files I'll be using are already given out for free by the original creators to be downloaded freely, so will I be good using those? I may or may not be misunderstanding what "copyright" entails, though. I hate to throw myself under the bus, but should I be worried about my current mods being taken down? showler
If the original owner has given them away and said you can use them for non-commercial purposes then it's okay to use them. If the original owner has a general policy they've made public that it's okay to use their assets in a non-commercial way then you're okay (the makers of The Witcher games have done this so that's why you see a lot of direct ports from The Witcher games). Basically, you need something you can point to that says it's okay for you to use it.

Perfect timing, I just read Valve's Terms of Use and I can indeed use the available files for non-commercial. Oddly, I think it even allows commercial use from what I read. Probably has something to do with TF2 being a free game. That certainly explains why I once heard a dubstep song with Scout voicelines in it. (It wasn't my playlist I swear)

I think it's more to do with Valve not wanting to discourage modding. After all, Team Fortress started as a mod.
