How to change modded file back to default in GECK

Hello,

Is there a simple way to revert changes made to a folder within the GECK after the changes have been saved? I'm trying to document everything I change and I forgot exactly what I changed with an item.

Yes!  Open GECK and with the folder in it and rename it first and then use the SAVE IT AS function so your original folder and stuff isn't overwritten.  In the new copy your renamed for your mod you can change all, save it's content, reorganize it in the new folder, when you're done with the New Folder's content you can keep it as a spare.

I appreciate the help. There doesn't appear to be a save as function within GECK. I only have the save button.

Are referring to your mymod.ESP?  If it's your mymod.esp that is a file.  Everything stored in it is accessible in the GECK in the lower right window.   You can see all your items listed in that window when you open your mymod.esp.

If you added changes to that file and SAVED it the old version is gone!   I always keep a copy of each time I decided to change things so I had the last way I set it up as a  backup!

Bear with me, this is my first attempt at modding. I'm using the GECK that comes with the Steam version of Fallout 3. I found a semi-easy way to fix this by simply reloading assets without my mod selected in the GECK load up. Then I just copy what is there. Other than remembering to utilize the 'undo' button, I still am not sure about what you are suggesting.

Wow!  We're both confused.  I modded with the GECK that came with the CD.  I didn't know the version Steam provides offers tools any different.  I learned everything about modding for the game from using the Wiki for the game.   The instructions guided me step by step there.  It reads like a technical manual and often can get me looking at another sector so I slipped off and fouled up by going to the new info which I wasn't ready for.

I definitely am finding this post intriguing since I understand how the GECK can frustrate our efforts at times just when I thought I had it all figured out.

People used to tell me the problem with my questions back then was, They couldn't see my computer monitor so they could try to understand what I was asking questions about.  And it's still true today.  I can only try and imagine what you're seeking answers for, for your present settings and progress.

That's likely why we are both confused.  LOL

Pixs off your monitor with the GECK shown and pointing out what you are having trouble with would help.  Just pixs of the GECK without any of your monitors other apps or images of your other games and desktop app not in it would be helpful.  Just pixs of the GECK area you are working with and a description pointing out what the trouble area is so anyone could see the problem to be determined and hopefully resolved.

For refreshing.  What I am comprehending from reading your topic describing your problem, "How to change modded file back to default in GECK?"

In my imagined concept the question seems to suggest that when you open the GECK your present mod is always there and that you want to get the GECK to restore the GECK to when it was a new start with the settings to work on a new blank starter mod.

The Default setting would be the GECKs' normal starting for a completely new mod like the GECK was; before you began is how your words I see seem to suggest.  That's why I am having trouble figuring out your situation so far.

I'm learning as I go! I also learnt quickly that I need to protect mods/plugins I've already made and separate them before I start messing around with dialogue and quest rewards. As for the primary question. I think there is no easy solution for this issue with the current build of the GECK that I'm using. I couldn't even get the undo button to work the last time I tried to use that as a solution. Seems that once a change is made and saved it is a done deal. If you don't mind would you help me with another topic I've made in regard to how to adjust rewards given from a NPC, and adding new if statements.

Print the page with the code into your post.  That way if anyone that knows how to do what you are asking they can see the code block and offer suggestions.
