Character Going Invisible (FYI)

Lately I had an issue where in certain rooms, my character would go completely invisible when I stepped past a certain boundary, and she would not become visible again until she left that area. It wasn't an entire cell doing this, but usually low-ceilinged portions or narrow hallways with a feast hall and lots of stuff in it.

I tried restarting the game, adjusting camera settings, unequipping heels and hats, changing my race (with the setrace command), changing my scale (with the setscale command), changing my weight (with the setnpcweight command) and everything I could think of. nothing worked. I even tried exiting the cell and using the resetinterior [ID of cell] command, and that didn't fix it. It wasn't a bug with the cell.

I very slowly moved past the line and doing that could see my character going invisible body parts at a time (head, hands, etc.) until she would be completely invisible across the threshold, and she'd reappear coming back.

If it were just a matter of invisibility, I'd have gone first person and played as is. But it also shifted the camera, dropped it and made aiming and walking around obstacles very clunky and awkward.

I probably should have recorded it, but it's a lot of work to set up a SFW cell and character as a demonstration, but if you ever get this problem, you won't need a film. You'll recognize it.

I was worried it was a save file corruption

What worked for completely fixing the issue was to change my hair style. I had a very simple SMP hair style, nothing fancy. And I changed it to another SMP hair style, nothing fancy.

Upon doing this, my character no longer went invisible crossing the threshold.

I can make educated guesses on why this happened, but it's not important. It's an easy issue to recognize, and an easy issue to fix 🙂

p.s. Before changing my hair style, I also had tried several helms and even wigs. This did not help. I had to actually change my character's hair.

I still don't understand why you're telling me that. I figured out the solution and shared it in case anyone else had the issue. I don't have a problem. It was specific to hair style.
