Praise for Interesting NPCs by Kris Takahashi

i ran into the added NPC Wander-Lust in Falkreath Cemetery, and i don't think i've ever cried so hard over a random interaction in all my years of playing Skyrim.  finding Wander-Lust and speaking to her about her son and her new perspective on life since taking on "wandering" was truly serendipitous, as part of my recent personal growth has been focused on not dwelling into the past and living in fear of life.  i felt anxious seeing her walk off without any armor, but the peace she left me with was enough to understand why.

if you're on the fence about downloading this mod, i highly recommend it.  in less than 10 strings of dialogue, Wander-Lust brought me to tears and gave me new insight into my own personal journey.  i'm definitely RPing that my PC is now a sobbing mess over a grave they don't know, while Gore and Lucien Flavius are attempting to console them.  Vito Berengar and Faendal are standing off to the side, the first more solemnly (awkwardly?) than the other, and Meeko is either licking my PC's tears or chasing a butterfly because he is a good boy!

Thanks for the tip on the mod, evengayercats. I never heard of it before, but it sounds like a wonderful mod. I'll download it now 🙂

I had it installed once, decided to dump it.  Not a bad idea, but too many NPCs in widely scattered wilderness areas had them interfering in other quest spawns, and there were some stuck quests, make sure you check the bugs tab for the latest.  I wish that it was a little slimmer, for sure.

I never had issues with this mod, it's overall pretty well done.  There are some characters that are over the top NSFW (pretty rare but you'll immediately know what I mean when you encounter them) and the audio quality isn't consistent (some character volume too quiet).  But it really adds a lot, and the interactions between the followers is a really cool concept.

I've never had 3DNPC interfere with the vanilla game quests, but I have had some stuck quests within the mod (quests related to 2 or more of the 3DNPC characters).  Understandable given the scope of the mod.  If you use a follower framework, you've got to understand that 3DNPC wasn't designed to work with multiple followers, or the ability to make followers stay in places other than their default.

Still, it's a gem that I always have in my load order.  There are good replacers for it too to make the characters look pretty.

@melvinius I pretty well agree w/all of the above, just wanted ppl to know what kinds of problems/drawbacks to expect.  I had some wide-ranging landscape mods, and some quest add-ons, and it just got too crowded.

Yeah, 100% agree with that.  I actually think that Bethesda needs to work on the scale of their games, spread things out more.  It's not realistic to run across a sabre cat every ten minutes or a point of interest every one minute.  Not really the fault of Interesting NPCs though, they're just working with the space that Skyrim gave us.

I've always regarded Interesting NPCS as Skyrim's premier quest mod.  Kris is a very creative writer; his voice actors are among the best.

I used to judge new mods on whether they were compatible with Interesting NPCS.  Thank goodness most of them were.  Due to being a cleaver mod, its most suitable audience would be cleaver players,

BTW, some of the character makeovers are wonderful.

You ever played TES2 (Daggerfall)?   Colossal amount of area to cover, about 99% of it empty.   On the map, town of Gothway Garden is literally 1 pixel away from starter cave.   About 5 minute walk in-game.  A small town could easily take 2 minutes to cross.   After trying to walk places a couple of times, you switched to fast travel and never looked back.    I'll take the tiny, cramped, but handcrafted and filled up with interesting stuff world of Skyrim over that any day.
