(ChatGPT fixes Skyrim!) A new way in finding the causes of Skyrim crashes.

Recommended Posts

Hey, everybody. I thought I'd share my case study of finding the cause of Skyrim crashes after aggressive modding on my part))

Perhaps someone has already written about this method, but personally I was very impressed by its simplicity and speed. So I want to share it with you.

So, how the events unfolded. I as usual put a bunch of mods trying to take everything into account and install all the necessary patches, observing the order of loading. But as a result, the game collected by me, although I started, but at some point crashed (when I walked in the inn in Windhelm).

And then I had an interesting idea - why not throw the Crash Log from CrashLogger SSE and the Loot utility log into ChatGPT?

In fact, this should be enough to understand what the problem is. After all, I don't understand how to read the Crash log file, but ChatGPT sure does!

I will not describe the whole sequence of actions, here is the prompt I used:

Quote

Hello. In the attached file crash-2025-03-07-06-41-04.log the log of Crash Logger SSE plugin for Skyrim game. Skyrim keeps crashing to the Windows desktop, and I can't understand the problem. I have a number of mods installed to improve the game. In the file Loot export of load order.txt, I have uploaded for you from the program Loot for Skyrim information about the installed plugins.

Based on the information provided, please determine the cause of the Skyrim game crashes. If the problem is in a particular mod, then write in which one. To solve the problem, analyze the files Loot export of load order.txt and crash-2025-03-07-06-41-04.log

If you have additional questions or need more information, ask me.

In the first case, ChatGPT unmistakably pointed out the cause of the crash, after which I installed the hair physics fix for the NPS and everything worked. I was extremely impressed by the accuracy, because as I wrote above - the crash happened exactly when I entered the Windhelm Inn.

The second bug I caught was when the game started crashing when fighting draugrs.

Following the same pattern, I threw the files into ChatGPT and it again super accurately pointed me to the problem with the patch for DF for blood when dismembering draugrons (why I even put it - I do not understand)... Having removed the patch, the crashes disappeared.

This is actually the method I wanted to share with you. The whole process of finding the cause of the game crash I took something like 10 minutes in both cases, taking into account going to the kitchen for tea.

I hope for someone this topic will be very useful.
