stardruid Posted yesterday at 08:35 AM Share Posted yesterday at 08:35 AM I have vortex installed on external ssd I move between my main PC and my laptop, the same drive No Man's sky is installed on. I've been having the vortex folder in "C:\Users\Miah\AppData\Roaming" actual point to the external drive so I could manage the mods for the game only once, and not having to deal with a different installs of vortex on each machine. But after the last update to No Man's sky Vortex refuses to work with no man's sky. It says the extension failed. After removing it and restarting it gives a "Failed to install the extension "Game: No Man's Sky" from "github.com". Complete error message is Error: Cannot find module 'semver' Require stack: - I:\Extra symbolic links\Vortex\plugins\Vortex Extension Update - No Man's Sky v1.0.1\index.js - I:\games\Vortex\resources\app.asar\node_modules\vortex-run\lib\index.js - I:\games\Vortex\resources\app.asar\renderer.js - I:\games\Vortex\resources\app.asar\index.html at Module._resolveFilename (node:internal/modules/cjs/loader:1084:15) at o._resolveFilename (node:electron/js2c/renderer_init:2:3225) at Module._load (node:internal/modules/cjs/loader:929:27) at l._load (node:electron/js2c/asar_bundle:2:13642) at o._load (node:electron/js2c/renderer_init:2:2455) at Function._load (I:\games\Vortex\resources\app.asar\renderer.js:10045:108) at Module.require (node:internal/modules/cjs/loader:1150:19) at Module.require (I:\games\Vortex\resources\app.asar\renderer.js:10043:190) at Module.require (I:\games\Vortex\resources\app.asar\renderer.js:9610:127) at require (node:internal/modules/cjs/helpers:119:18) at Object.<anonymous> (I:\Extra symbolic links\Vortex\plugins\Vortex Extension Update - No Man's Sky v1.0.1\index.js:16:34) at Object.<anonymous> (I:\Extra symbolic links\Vortex\plugins\Vortex Extension Update - No Man's Sky v1.0.1\index.js:135:3) at Module._compile (node:internal/modules/cjs/loader:1271:14) at Module._extensions..js (node:internal/modules/cjs/loader:1326:10) at Module.load (node:internal/modules/cjs/loader:1126:32) at Module._load (node:internal/modules/cjs/loader:967:12) If I move the vortex folder back to Roaming it works, but moving it back to the external drive make it fail again and seem to look at the old mod location for no man sky. Is there anyway to get it working with the symbolic link again?
Pickysaurus Posted yesterday at 08:39 AM Share Posted yesterday at 08:39 AM Your symlinks are causing this problem. Vortex is likely looking for a specific path, and your symlinks are probably breaking this. Semver is part of the core Vortex app, so it can't really be missing unless your install is corrupt. stardruid Posted yesterday at 08:54 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 08:54 AM So this mean that Vortex won't work anymore with my current setup? That sucks, means I'll have to look for another mod manager.
Solution Pickysaurus Posted yesterday at 01:36 PM Solution Share Posted yesterday at 01:36 PM I've checked with our team, and the best way to fix this is to install Vortex at the default location under C:\Program Files and use the normal Appdata location rather than a symlink. Without doing that, you may not be able to make Vortex work with your setup.
stardruid
Sadly did that in past and it would constantly complain about managing another vortex installs files when I moved the external between computers. I also had issues since if I changed the mods on my main machine I had to do it all over again on my laptop or risk issues If I forgot to. Sad it broke after all this time of working. Just means I'm back to manually installing mods and check for update myself.
