CentralNexus Posted May 20 Posted May 20 I used Vortex the last few days without problem, playing the XBOX PC version of Fallout 4. This morning when trying to start up Vortex it did something weird, crashing on startup. I closes a second after it appears, and only occasionally do I see the dashboard. I tried to reinstall the software, to no effect. I then uninstalled it and tried to install it again. No effect I did the "SFC /scannow" check as I found on other threads. Results were "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations" I'm running a virus scan now. And will do a memory scan after that. Looked for vortex log files but did not find them.
CentralNexus Posted May 20 Author Posted May 20 Memory scan was negative, as was the virus scan. I've located some logfiles from today vortex1.log vortex2.log vortex.log
ChemBoy1 Posted May 20 Posted May 20 So I'm looking at your logs. I am not seeing any specific errors. It seems to be suddenly ending the process with nothing in the log around the time when the render window process starts. What kind of GPU do you have in your system? Are you using the latest drivers? I know it sounds crazy, but Nvidia, especially, has been causing lots of suffering for many people with their drivers causing random issues like this. I did see this line repeated, which suggests there's an issue with your login token. 2025-05-20T15:42:03.602Z [WARN] Authentication failed, please log in again {"message":"The provided authorization grant is invalid, expired, revoked, does not match the redirection URI used in the authorization request, or was issued to another client.","text":"Your OAuth token has either expired or has been revoked, please log in again to generate a new token.","wrap":false,"allowReport":false}
CentralNexus Posted May 20 Author Posted May 20 It worked briefly after purging junk files, optimizing the game (Omen Game Hub), enough for me to start a game. But it didn't look like the mods were all being included. I saw the warning briefly during a couple of the automatic Vortex restarts, but not enough to get specifics.
CentralNexus Posted May 20 Author Posted May 20 I'm having trouble getting Vortex to open long enough to log out and log in. It keeps crashing and restarting, but is only visible for a second or 2 IF that...

What did you do, exactly? It is possible you deleted files generated by Vortex. Have you tried completely deleting the Vortex Roaming AppData folder? You can copy the address below into the address bar of File Explorer to get there. You can backup the folder first if you are worried about losing your setup. But it sounds like Vortex is missing key files, that were likely deleted by the "purge". %APPDATA%\Vortex
CentralNexus Posted May 21 Author Posted May 21 PC is an Omen desktop I got last year. The OMEN Gaming Hub was included software. There is a Booster which adjusts game performance. The Cleaner removed nearly 2GB of unnecessary files, to free up and optimize storage space. I'm thinking that is mostly temporary files left behind. -------------------- MODEL OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop GT21-1xxx SERIAL NUMBER xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx OPERATING SYSTEM Microsoft Windows 11 Home - Release ID: 2009 - Version: 10.0.26100 - Build: 26100 CPU AMD Ryzen 7 7700 8-Core Processor - Clock speed: 3801MHz - Description: AMD64 Family 25 Model 97 Stepping 2 GPU AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics - Driver version: 32.0.11038.3001 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti - Refresh rate: 100Hz - Driver version: 32.0.15.7652 RAM HP52U40S6HA-8FRAE - Capacity: 8GB - Type: DDR5 - Default clock speed: 4800MHz HP52U40S6HA-8FRAE - Capacity: 8GB - Type: DDR5 - Default clock speed: 4800MHz AUDIO Realtek High Definition Audio AMD High Definition Audio Device NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM) NVIDIA High Definition Audio ------------------ I also updated the NVIDIA driver to the newest version. Apparently a new version was released yesterday. Right now if I start Vortex it goes into a perpetual loop. Blinks the dashboard for anywhere from a split second to at most 3 seconds , if it shows up at all. Sometimes i only get the Vortex Splash graphic to show, and it immediately crashes. After crashing a couple minutes later it pops up again, and again. Ties up a lot of memory in the background . I have to go to the TASK MANAGER , Details, and find 4 processes running n the background, end the process tree to break the loop. Yes I've restarted it SEVERAL times since yesterday. I'm not sure WHY it was stable enough to run a couple times today, but its back to unstable and I can't get it to the point where I can log out or in.
CentralNexus Posted May 21 Author Posted May 21 Vortex folder was deleated from C:\Users\centr\AppData\Roaming\ A new Roaming folder was created, but had NO affect. Vortex continues to crash , hold, crash, etc. vortex.log
Community Manager Pickysaurus Posted May 21 Community Manager Posted May 21 If you deleted the entire appdata folder that rules out Vortex's internal state as the problem and implies it's either a corrupt copy of Vortex (which a reinstall could fix), something on your PC interfering with Vortex (e.g. security software) or some kind of integral fault with your Windows installation.
