I apologize if this has been asked before but:

  1. Is the ba2 limit different from plugin limit?
  2. How do you know you're close to reaching the ba2 limit?
  3. Can I see the limit somewhere like a mod manager or xedit?

Thank you for any assistance.

I use NMM and get no information about the number of counting ba2 files I have. The limit seems to be 256 non-texture ba2s. Texture ba2 files don't seem to count and these are not recommended for unpacking. Some more information (I never verfied) you can find here: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/79593

there is also something i use which is very helpful here:https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/87907  but it also does a little bit more than just check Ba2 files i would explain more but i feel its own description tells you everything you need to know.

Found it Recently (as in a week or more ago) but i haven't had issues with it so far.

The game will crash at the main menu when you've exceeded the limit.

If you then unpack some archives, start the game again and it doesn't crash this time, you'll know the crash was because you had exceeded the archive limit.

The plugin limit is different from the archive limit (the limit for ESL plugins is 4096).

1)  Yes

2)  See subaverage post

3)  Count them - you know what you have installed.

I say #3 for one reason.   People don't understand the limits they are trying to push this engine to - and it's not a state of the are engine to begin with.   They should at least consider that before dogpiling on it.
