Ralof or Hadvar?

It really depends on what type of character I'm playing as to who I like better. I enjoying roleplaying my characters and liking the people that they would like, which can be very different from character to character. My most recent character is a Stormcloak who hates the Empire for past mistreatments, so he definately likes Ralof better. When playing as him, I like Ralof better.

When I first played the game I didn't even realize that I had a choice of following Ralof, so I went with Hadvar because I thought I had to. Now that I know better I always go with whoever is the best match for my character. If he is a supporter of the Empire or is a law abiding citizen, he obviously goes with Hadvar. If he hates the Empire or is a criminal or outcast then he goes with Ralof.

Overall though I'd have to say that I personally like Hadvar better, he just has more personality and seems like a better guy. But that's really just because he is presented better in the game, he has his own voice and everything, isn't as generic. Ralof is a little more annoying too if you're just trying to get through the damn tutorial and don't care anymore.

First time around I went with Ralof by accident and he was cool, I liked his personality although I can't remember much about him now. The second time around I went with Hadvar and he was cool enough but in the quest line he freaked me out because he seemed to take a lot of joy from anticipating the killing of Stormcloaks.

Ralof. But only because my character was Nord and it just made sense. I admit that the idea of payback against the Imperials was a strong motivation in my choice.

However, I did take note of Hadvar's actions and words both before and after the (attempted) execution.

1) Hadvar protested that you were not on the list. He was overruled, but he did point out the problem.

2) He expressed sympathy directly to you after the bit... er, I mean "captain" overruled him.

3) He "rescued" the boy during Alduin's attack. (Right after you emerge from the ruined inn that you jumped to from the tower.)

4) With the bit... oops, I mean "captain" no longer around to countermand him, he guides you to safety. Then apparently takes a "What the heck" attitude (what with the town burning down around your ears, quite reasonable) cuts your bonds and offers you his trust by letting you arm yourself -surely knowing full well what could happen to him if you turn on him.

So when I hit the point where I had to make my choice (in my first game) with those first three points in mind, it was an agonizing one even knowing full well that this choice didn't actually affect the overall storyline (since you can still choose either Empire or Stormcloaks later.)

EDIT: It just occurred to me, shouldn't this thread be in "Spoilers"?
