3D Oblivion

A request to any modder with proficient skill: Please overhaul the graphics in oblivion to work with the red and blue 3D glasses. I know it seems a daunting task, but picture the finished product...... awe inspiring, wouldn't it be? If I had the ability I would do it myself, but alas, I am unable to mod to save my life. Again, please make Oblivion 3D. Thank you.

Also, if anyone does undertake this task, please notify me at [email protected]

WOW ! This is far the greatest idea I ever heard, but it's going to be a real overhaul, it maybe need somekind of master skill. But it's not that I don't appreciate your idea, it's awesome and going to be a blockbuster if someone make it.

I'll study this art first (3D things), hoping there's a way for the modders to do it.

Update : Looks easy enough editing pictures using photoshop, but a game and a movie is a huge difference. I don't see "can" or "can't", but maybe anyone know this better ?

The "red and blue" was never true 3D, and would make Oblivion look cheesy.

Real 3D effects are done by dual polarized images that can be phase-shifted to trick your depth perception. Oblivion's engine (Gamebryo) wasn't designed to process phase-shifted duplicate textures.

An awesome idea, but I don't think it's as simple as the modders making new textures. :(

Actually, Oblivion should already be capable of it. All that's really needed is the correct video driver and display, I nVidia already makes a product, used in conjunction with polarized glasses. The driver just needs to use the z-depth information already present in all 3d games to offset the images appearing for the right and left eye to trick your brain into seeing 3d.

3D will be the next big thing. This year Director James Cameron's movie Avatar will be released that was shot using a new camera invented by Cameron and his brother specifically for 3d in theaters. Not the old red blue glasses 3d but the new polarized glasses version. It's supposed to be spectacular. George Lucas has already converted Star Wars to 3d and many studios are future proofing their films by converting them to 3d. Once 3d takes off, going back to old 2d in films and games will feel like going back to black and white and mono sound.

Even old games and movies will feel like new and different experiences. Imagine Raiders of the Lost Ark in 3D.

Doubtful. 3d movies will always be, for many of us, too reminiscent of cheezy 3d movies from the 70's and 80's. You know, the kind where they're always poking something out toward the camera. And 3d games never worked out, virtualboy anyone? The reality is that 3d movies and such is only a passing fad, and that it only works for certain genres.

As far as making the game look 3d with 3d glasses, I have a feeling that just making all the textures use normal maps would do it... It'd look like crap though.

Just keep in mind Vagrant, that with the technology that we have now can and will further our advances into 3D titles. Such as menchioned Avatar. Also we are starting to design derected beams of light that expande to expose an image, with multipole beams we can create a hollowgraham like effect. Grated most of these things are farther down the road from being a more house hold friendly item, they are around.

That in mind i would like to press for this mod to its fullest entechion. The best thing about thinking outside the box is that the box may soon expanded to hold that thought within itself.
