Thor.
This is a new twist, AMD's mantle is reportedly designed for lower end cpu's and maybe give boost performance to newer models as well. So all that marketing stuff that mantle was for gpu's and GCN only was all bull. GCN only was false to begin with. http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/175676-amds-mantle-finally-emerges-turns-out-its-actually-for-boosting-low-end-cpus-not-gpus
Werne
It was said from the start that GPUs will be used as co-processors to compute data that is usually run by CPUs in order to increase the number of draw calls and improve performance through multi-threading and co-processing. They also said that developers will have full control over the hardware, in this case it means developers can choose which core or processor (CPU or GPU) should execute a certain part of code and will the GPU help in parallel processing task to ease the load on the CPU and remove the need for serial execution. Did they deliver what they said they will? They did. So, what the problem is? Edited January 30, 2014 by Werne
JimboUK
It's exactly what they said it was, http://www.geek.com/games/battlefield-4-gets-58-percent-performance-boost-using-amds-mantle-api-1583586/ one set up gained 58%, others less, it depends how its implemented and what it's implemented on. Werne
http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/news/view/bf4-mantle-live/Yeah, I forgot to mention that yesterday, BF4 finally pushed the Mantle update. Game's still buggy as f*** according to feedback though, maybe developers should first fix the game and then work on improving whatever they try to improve. Also something that doesn't surprise me one bit - doesn't work at all with Nvidia cards. By the way Thor, you can't say I didn't told you so. With that in mind, I can sense an entire avalanche of yapping butt-hurt Nvidia users, same as when PhysX was released and there was an avalanche of yapping butt-hurt AMD users.
hoofhearted4
That's what is said it was. I didn't understand the specifics but I always understood it as something with the CPU using the GPU as an aid
JimboUK
EA release a patch that breaks more than it fixes and now the Mantle drivers have been delayed, it's going well.
Thor.
That's what you get for relying on EA for mantle launch, my expectations of it is pretty low. But it does work with AMD cpu's, i am in a win lose situation lol. I don't care though, i have a machine that can play anything it throws at it anyways. but this is also works against your argument. http://wccftech.com/amd-mantle-api-require-gcn-work-nvidia-graphic-cards/ A gtx780 ti runs battlefield 4 well over 120fps mark youtube, don't own it myself, never will. Skyrim on the other hand pff I am breaking benchmark records, 120fps with enb and mods  . Its probably do to the fact my system has no bottlenecks of any kind. It runs absolutely perfect. Anyways here is a good argument, check it out. Is AMD trolling other gpu manufacturers or is it open source, just right now its gcn. SDK maybe ???, if not then its a closed api. https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/75442/amd-mantle-api-will-work-with-nvidia-graphic-cards Edited January 31, 2014 by Thor.
