brianiacc
I just started getting back into Oblivion after being away from it for a while, and I was wondering why there is such a scarcity of mods based on Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth series. If you guys can show me where I could find some related that would be really appreciated . . . :]
Jinxxed0
If you read all the books, you may know about the slith (sp?). You can download SpeedBuster's glass girl for that, lol. Theres also a vest of richards from the show. Ummm, Theres also some adult/sex mods (since theres a lot of....well you know in that series). I havent actually read it myself, but I have two friends that into right now and thats all they ever talk about, so i pretty much have read what they have read, lol. It seems interesting, but I'm tired of the same old medival with magic lore. Theres a lord of the rings mod being worked on, and thats more well known I think and this game has been out for years, so maybe a sword of truth/the seeker mod will be considered for the nex TES or in a few years for this one. I thought Oblivion would be perfect for a SoT mod. Oh well . . . thanks.

I actually had to stop watching it because it was actually harming my opinion of the whole thing. "The Proof is in Pudding" so to speak when you compare the fan base of the books vs the fan base of the show and understand just how many actual fans of the books are disappointed with the show! It's not even remotely close to the story lines at all and INMHO is the worst rendition of book to series/movie I have ever seen made! Such a shame too, it could have been the best show ever done! LHammonds
I have did not read the books but I have seen the TV series on Hulu.com. I liked the show for what it was...a B movie set in the fantasy world. I am also surprised that there is not a "Sword of Truth" mod already created that adds items from the series but maybe modders that "can" create the items simply do not know how they should be implemented. I started a project with my nephew for a book he was reading called Icewind Dale. I showed him how easy it was to create a shield that looked like the one on the cover of the book. He got excited about the possibilities and was talking about all the other weapons that could be created and how to make them work in Oblivion. Thus began the mod. He started learning Blender at an extremely impressive rate. So much so that I felt stupid for not jumping into Blender like he did (which is why I finally started modeling). But things happened I care not to discuss and he is no longer available and I obviously cannot create any weapons for it since I had not read the book (nor have interest to). Why am I babbling on? Well, if you want things from the series created, I'd strongly suggest that you pick out the items you'd hold most dear and describe them in great detail..reference images would be good even if they are not of the exact same sword, just what you would picture it as. Then give more details about its looks if the images do not do it justice (such as having an acorn-sized green gem at the pommel and ends of the guard edges...etc. Then explain how it would be implemented in the game...stats, enchantments, scripted effect, etc. If enough items are generated for the series, you might then want to delve into the possibility of quests based on the series. Trying to ask for an entire world will never happen but small pieces here and there will be much more likely...especially from modders that are not familiar with the series. As for quests, placeholders can be made for custom items have not be created yet. Example: Create a quest for obtaining the actual sword of truth, give it the enchantments, scripted effects and so on...everything can be done without the actual custom sword. A silver longsword can be used until somebody creates a custom model for it. Those that are only adept in the Construction Set can create such things and possibly generate more buzz in the community asking for custom content to be created for it. But it all needs to start very small and very specific with plenty of details. ;) LHammonds
brianiacc
You should read the books as the TV series really does not do Goodkinds work any justice. I was just curious if there were any mods out as I personally could not locate any . . . :[ I don't like asking things of other people when I have nothing to give them in turn, and I personally would not want to waste my time working on something such as this so I have no right to ask anybody else to. Thanks for the help though, and you should try the books! :D The show had so much potential . . . too bad they deviated so much.
Vagrant0
It's not even remotely close to the story lines at all and INMHO is the worst rendition of book to series/movie I have ever seen made!A bit off topic... But you never saw Stephen King's Dreamcatcher did you? Hate to say it, but most books turned into movies and TV shows get horribly destroyed by the show's own writers, focus groups, marketing, directors, actors, and a whole slew of other stuff. Generally, one should consider the book to be an entirely different entity from the movie, TV show, ect. Kinda like how you hear about an event from the 3rd or 4th retelling from different people, alot of stuff changes. They pick what they like, and then smoke some crack to help fill in the spots between. Ultimately, when it comes to mods like this, you also have to do kinda the same thing. Take what you like, and try to fill in the rest as best as you can. Invariably, you will need to fill in the gaps somewhere since no writer is able to explain everything within a universe to absolute clarity, and no reader would be able to tolerate such an explanation for very long. The key is to try and be consistent with the decisions you make, and be definitive as to why you have made those decisions so that there is less chance for problems due to creative differences. On a large project like this, the worst thing you could do is decide to make a significant change half-way through.
Jinxxed0
Books that turn into shows are only bad to the fans of the book. The same goes for remakes. Whats the point of retelling a story with the exact same events, people, time period, characters ect. They change things so that you get the classic story with a different flavor. Like the story of Arthor, people complain about the show Merlin because its not how they the heard an older version of it. When that older version was made, people complained about it not being like one made before that and so on and so on. Its like every generation thinking everything they had was better than what they had was better than anything else. Personally I like the book and the show. At leas the show doesn't have all that needles twisted sexual stuff like the book, lol. Back on topic though, someone could probably make the MordSith outfit and the sword richard uses and such. I'm doubt a full blown blow SoT mod would ever be worked on at this point, but who knows. If the right people work on it, maybe we'll see a few screenshots and a beta release. Then after about 6 months of working on it, the team will just quit and stop working on it. Kinda like most of the other big projects, lol. Tchos
Whats the point of retelling a story with the exact same events, people, time period, characters ect.Maybe because that's what made it good? They change things so that you get the classic story with a different flavor. They most assuredly do not. They do it by committee, and while one purpose is to translate something that works in a textual medium into one that they hope works in a visual medium, the far more influential reason is to appeal to the lowest common denominator, to squeeze the most possible advertising revenue out of it.
